Improved diagnostics of Tropheryma whipplei

Whipple´s disease, a systemic and ultimately fatal infection with Tropheryma whipplei, is usually easily treated if diagnosed early enough. A novel real-time PCR protocol and fluorescence in situ hybridization provide an improved diagnosis. All results, however, need careful interpretation.
