A non-invasive sampling method is used where specimens are collected by applying a few drops of blood freshly drawn from the infant\u2019s heel with a lancet onto specially manufactured absorbent specimen collection (filter) paper. This method has many advantages: short collection time, low invasiveness, reduction of sample volume and ease of sample storage. It allows quantitative results to minimize the needs of a confirmatory test.
