Secondary Tubes
, /in Product News /by 3wmediaVersatility is the great advantage of the new VACUETTE® Secondary Tubes developed by Greiner Bio-One. Th e tubes are available in two different types of material: PP (Polypropylene) and PET (Polyethylene terephthalate). They are perfectly suited for various uses inside and outside the laboratory, e.g. aliquoting, pooling, centrifuging, freezing, storing or transporting sample material. Thanks to the special screw closure, they fulfill the IATA guidelines for safe sample transport. Naturally they also meet the CLSI Standard AUTO 1-A. The tubes are easy to open, cold-resistant (-80 °C), transparent and shatter-proof. In order to off er the appropriate packaging for each application, Greiner Bio-One has developed two versions. VACUETTE® Secondary Tubes MULTIPLEX are packaged in pull-open plastic bags, whereas VACUETTE® Secondary Tubes SIMPLEX were developed especially for use with automated laboratory equipment. They are offered in environmentally friendly cardboard packaging. As they are already packaged pre-aligned in the cardboard container, they can be transferred directly into the storage container (plastic or metal box) of the laboratory machine. This is especially practical and saves valuable working time.

SignaLOCK™ ChemiWestern Kits – Head and Shoulders Above the Rest
, /in Product News /by 3wmediaKPL offers next-generation solutions to improve sensitivity and time to results in Western blotting applications. New SignaLOCK™ HRP ChemiWestern Kit (Imager), SignaLOCK HRP ChemiWestern Kit (Film), and SignaLOCK AP ChemiWestern Kit (Film/Imager) enable researchers to reach the highest levels of detection sensitivity. These kits enable detection in the nanogram range with only a 1-minute exposure. A longer exposure offers sensitivity in the femtogram range. The high sensitivity of SignaLOCK kits allows you to use primary and secondary antibodies at higher dilutions, minimizing background and lowering cost. They combine a chemiluminescent substrate with a unique non-protein blocker and wash solution in one powerful system. Whether you prefer peroxidase or phosphatase detection, film or imager analysis, SignaLOCK kits enable researchers to see more signal with less background in their Western blots. All kits offer comprehensive protocols and can be used with both nitrocellulose and PVDF membrane.

ProADM proven to be the best risk predictor
, /in Product News /by 3wmediaThe new biomarker ProADM significantly improves risk assessment of patients suffering from lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI)
An early risk assessment of LRTI patients is essential for optimizing treatment and rational resource allocation. Adrenomedullin (ADM) has a significant presence in the course of LRTI and is strongly associated with a patient’s risk of mortality and severe complications. ADM reflects a patient’s risk profile while its elevation is independent of the LRTI etiology.
A robust method to assess ADM levels is the measurement of a stable surrogate marker, the mid-regional fragment of ProAdrenomedullin (MR-proADM). The only available automated immunoassay is from Thermo Fisher Scientific.
Features of ProADM (MR-proADM) measurement
• Directly reflective of ADM production in a 1:1 ratio
• Increased stability relative to ADM
• Reliably measurable with the automated Thermo Scientific B·R·A·H·M·S MR-proADM KRYPTOR immunoassay
• Well documented for clinical use
• Rapidly available to aid timely clinical decision-making (assay incubation time 29 minutes)
• Small sample volume (26µL)
• Measurement in EDTA plasma

Laboratory automation
, /in Product News /by 3wmediaLab automation can help handle increasing workloads from the growing demand for in vitro diagnostic testing and allows better use of personnel. The circular track and modular design of the Aptio Automation platform ensures that it can be adapted to nearly any lab or testing environment. It also offers connectivity to Siemens’ portfolio of automation-ready analysers, thus facilitating a multidisciplinary approach to testing. The point-inspace aspiration feature helps streamline workflow by reducing the need to aliquot (or divide) samples, and its puck-based system with radio frequency identification enables individual sample routing and tracking, along with STAT prioritization. The system delivers comprehensive analytics via powerful, centralized information technology, while having the flexibility to provide pre- and post-analytical capabilities. The company’s CentraLink data management system facilitates efficient sample flow, auto-verification, quick access to samples and proactive quality control. This can also be customized for the end user, which speeds up system access and supports error reduction.

Single-use syringe filters
, /in Product News /by 3wmediaDesigned specifically for sample preparation, the single-use Titan3 and Target2 ranges of syringe filters accommodate greater burst pressures and provide exceptional flow-through characteristics. Previously supplied as the SUN-Sri TITAN2 and National Scientific Target ranges, the new filter units offer increased reliability and performance, including an improved housing design that prevents leakage during filtration. The premium Titan3 range has colour-coded housings for easy membrane selection and an integral ring that withstands even greater burst pressures: the 30mm models are resistant to pressures of up to 120psi. Both filter ranges are fully HPLC-tested and incorporate low extractable membranes and housings. The filters are available in a wide range of filtration membrane types and porosities and are suitable for a range of chromatography filtration applications.

Compartmented cell-culture plates
, /in Product News /by 3wmediaThe OneWell Plate is a cell culture dish with a compartment that is particularly suitable for cultivating and analysing bacteria. Its automation-friendly plate format enables automated replication of bacteria colonies. The rectangular, stackable plate allows highly efficient use of incubator space. A model with a surface hydrophilized by physical treatment is available for adherent cell culture. The FourWell Plate, with four individual chambers, offers space for four slides, thereby enabling parallel experiments. Cell and tissue samples cultivated on these slides can be supplied with fresh medium quickly and easily and examined directly under a microscope. Semi-circular cavities in the base of each well facilitate the removal of slides with tweezers, and spacers prevent the slides from slipping to the edge of the well and covering these cavities. Both plates, made of transparent polystyrene, are sterile and free of detectable pyrogens, human DNA and DNases/ RNases. Their external dimensions comply with ANSI microplate standards and the plates can be used with a variety of automated systems. A bevelled edge on lid and dish ensures the lid can only be applied in one direction. The plates can also be used as multi-purpose containers for washing membranes (Southern, Northern and Western blots), for example.
