Secondary Tubes

Versatility is the great advantage of the new VACUETTE® Secondary Tubes developed by Greiner Bio-One. Th e tubes are available in two different types of material: PP (Polypropylene) and PET (Polyethylene terephthalate). They are perfectly suited for various uses inside and outside the laboratory, e.g. aliquoting, pooling, centrifuging, freezing, storing or transporting sample material. Thanks to the special screw closure, they fulfill the IATA guidelines for safe sample transport. Naturally they also meet the CLSI Standard AUTO 1-A. The tubes are easy to open, cold-resistant (-80 °C), transparent and shatter-proof. In order to off er the appropriate packaging for each application, Greiner Bio-One has developed two versions. VACUETTE® Secondary Tubes MULTIPLEX are packaged in pull-open plastic bags, whereas VACUETTE® Secondary Tubes SIMPLEX were developed especially for use with automated laboratory equipment. They are offered in environmentally friendly cardboard packaging. As they are already packaged pre-aligned in the cardboard container, they can be transferred directly into the storage container (plastic or metal box) of the laboratory machine. This is especially practical and saves valuable working time.

ProADM proven to be the best risk predictor

The new biomarker ProADM significantly improves risk assessment of patients suffering from lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI)

An early risk assessment of LRTI patients is essential for optimizing treatment and rational resource allocation. Adrenomedullin (ADM) has a significant presence in the course of LRTI and is strongly associated with a patient’s risk of mortality and severe complications. ADM reflects a patient’s risk profile while its elevation is independent of the LRTI etiology.
A robust method to assess ADM levels is the measurement of a stable surrogate marker, the mid-regional fragment of ProAdrenomedullin (MR-proADM). The only available automated immunoassay is from Thermo Fisher Scientific.

Compartmented cell-culture plates

The OneWell Plate is a cell culture dish with a compartment that is particularly suitable for cultivating and analysing bacteria. Its automation-friendly plate format enables automated replication of bacteria colonies. The rectangular, stackable plate allows highly efficient use of incubator space. A model with a surface hydrophilized by physical treatment is available for adherent cell culture. The FourWell Plate, with four individual chambers, offers space for four slides, thereby enabling parallel experiments. Cell and tissue samples cultivated on these slides can be supplied with fresh medium quickly and easily and examined directly under a microscope. Semi-circular cavities in the base of each well facilitate the removal of slides with tweezers, and spacers prevent the slides from slipping to the edge of the well and covering these cavities. Both plates, made of transparent polystyrene, are sterile and free of detectable pyrogens, human DNA and DNases/ RNases. Their external dimensions comply with ANSI microplate standards and the plates can be used with a variety of automated systems. A bevelled edge on lid and dish ensures the lid can only be applied in one direction. The plates can also be used as multi-purpose containers for washing membranes (Southern, Northern and Western blots), for example.
