Porvair Sciences develops optimised microplate for cannabis sample processing
, /in Product News /by panglobalPorvair Sciences has developed a 2 ml 96-well microplate designed for labs processing cannabis samples for analysis of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and Cannabidiol (CBD).
Sample processing is the second step in testing cannabis strains. This is carried out after collecting leaf, bud, and flower samples from cannabis plants, ready for accurate determination of the THC/CBD ratio by HPLC.
Traditionally sample processing protocols have used bead-beating or grinding mills to homogenize the plant materials. When this sample processing is carried out in standard polypropylene microplates, the extreme forces applied by these machines can cause damage to the plates, leading to cracking, leaking, and incorrect results due to sample cross-contamination.
To address these design shortfalls, Porvair Sciences developed a reinforced microplate that could withstand the applied forces in bead beaters while maintaining a standard ANSI/SLAS footprint making the methodology automation compatible.
Based upon a 2 ml square well block design, Porvair Sciences cannabis sample processing microplate sets a new standard for reliable, high productivity cannabis plant processing. To ensure that no contamination from the plate will affect the THC/CBD analysis, Porvair Sciences only uses pure, extractables-free polypropylene, to manufacture its plates.
Ziath launches Duo – a dual capability coded tube reader
, /in Product News /by panglobalZiath has launched a new dual capability coded tube reader – the Duo.
This affordably priced addition to the Ziath range combines the 2D-barcode reading technology of the Uno single tube reader with the fast, accurate linear barcode reading of the company’s Cyclops adaptor. The new Duo tube reader provides a compact benchtop solution for fast and accurate reading of both code types.
The durably constructed Ziath Duo is a portable reader which can be held and operated in one hand; leaving the other hand free for tube handling.
The Duo tube reader acts like a “keyboard wedge”, inserting the numeric barcode value from the tube it has scanned into any open program on a computer. This tube reader captures and decodes 2D barcodes from the base of tubes in just one second and can read most commercially available tubes with Datamatrix codes on their bases. The additional linear barcode scanner is designed to read linear rack barcodes from the side of whole racks of tubes or the linear code, if present, from the side of an individual tube.
Designed as a single, self-contained device – the Duo dual capability coded tube reader requires just one USB port to connect and power it from a PC.
Beckman Coulter partners with Smart4Diagnostics to reduce preanalytical errors between blood collection and lab analysis
, /in E-News /by panglobalBeckman Coulter has formed a partnership with Germany-based Smart4Diagnostics in an effort to close the preanalytical data gap between blood collection and laboratory analysis due to errors that take place before the sample arrives in the laboratory. These can be errors in sample collection, patient identification, sample handling, sample transportation and sample loss, for example.
