1,25 (OH)2 Vitamin D ELISA

This new ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) for 1,25(OH)2 Vitamin D is claimed to be the fastest 1,25(OH)2 Vitamin D ELISA on the market, with proven extraction method and limited number of incubation steps. It has breakable wells that offers flexibility for small and medium-sized laboratories. Performance of the assay is excellent, showing a good correlation with the Golden Standard LC-MS/MS and a cross-reactivity with the D2 form of 1,25(OH)2 Vitamin D close to 100%. Measurement of 1,25(OH)2 Vitamin D is less obvious than 25OH Vitamin D, because of its low concentration and short half-life. However, because of its metabolic activity and especially in cases of chronic renal insufficiency, it is more and more recommended to add the measurement of 1,25(OH)2 Vitamin D to the current existing 25OH Vitamin D test.

Serological test systems for Chlamydia infections

A comprehensive range of anti-Chlamydia test systems provides reliable serological diagnosis of infections with C. trachomatis, C. pneumoniae and C. psittaci. Serological methods are an important supplement to direct pathogen detection in the diagnosis of primary Chlamydia infections. They are, moreover, particularly useful for diagnosing persistent infections and for identifying long-term consequences of infection, such as sterility or reactive arthritis following C. trachomatis infection. The gold standard for detecting Chlamydia antibodies is microimmunofluorescence (MIF). The Anti-Chlamydia MIF provides BIOCHIP substrates of elementary bodies of C. trachomatis, C. pneumoniae and C. psittaci for parallel detection of the corresponding antibodies. The mutual lipopolysaccharide (LPS) antigen is inactivated to minimize cross reactivity. A control BIOCHIP of non-infected cells allows secure differentiation of unspecific and specific reactions. Anti-Chlamydia antibodies can also be detected using ELISA or immunoblot. The Anti-Chlamydia trachomatis ELISA utilizes native major outer membrane protein (MOMP) as the antigen for species-specific antibody detection. The Anti-Chlamydia pneumoniae ELISA is based on a cell lysate and allows genus-specific antibody detection. The immunoblot Anti-Chlamydia trachomatis EUROLINE-WB contains a unique combination of three categories of antigen: Chlamydia cross-reactive LPS, highly specific antigens from elementary bodies of C. trachomatis and highly specific recombinant MOMP antigen. This broad antigen spectrum ensures high sensitivity and specificity in the detection of antibodies against C. trachomatis. All anti-Chlamydia test procedures can be automated using specialized automation systems.

C121 Eppendorf 01

Extended volume range of conical tubes

With the introduction of the two 15 mL and 50 mL screw cap tubes, Eppendorf Tubes now cover the entire volume range from 0.5 mL to 50 mL. The newly designed screw caps provide not only optimal sealing properties, but with their grooved and multi-surface side-contour they simultaneously ensure a secure, slip-free grip. The optimized handling features further facilitate safe opening and closing of the tubes via convenient one-handed operation. The Eppendorf Conical Tubes are further characterized by an expanded purity grade: they are not only sterile and pyrogen-free, but they are also free from DNases and RNases as well as human and bacterial DNA. These features make them ideally suited for cell biology applications in a sterile environment as well as for laboratory protocols in the fields of microbiology and molecular biology, which rely on freedom from contaminations with DNA. The highest level of manufacturing precision and robustness ensures smooth performance of these tubes in laboratory instruments such as centrifuges or thermomixers.

C117 Fast Track 01

New kit sizes

Fast-track diagnostics kits are now sold in sizes of 32 and 64 reactions. The new formats will provide the greatest possible levels of flexibility to customers, as laboratories can aliquot reagents according to their specific needs. The ability to undertake variable run sizes (32 reaction kits allow 1 to 30 patient samples to be tested per run, while 64 reaction kits allow 1 to 62 patient samples to be tested) means all laboratories can run their tests in the way best suited to them, no matter the size. In addition, the kits will allow for easier comparison with other products, lower transport costs and easier ordering. The new kit sizes will still contain the company’s optimized primers and probes and internal, positive and negative controls as well as mastermix – enzyme and buffer (all in single bulk tubes). All the reagents are now provided in one box, and there is no need to order extra controls for small run use. Fast-track diagnostics has  a wide range of kits available for single and multiplex detection of infectious diseases. Kits are available for over 100 different pathogens – including viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites – most are in syndromic multiplexes to aid clinical diagnosis. The entire range is compatible with many of the thermalcyclers and extraction methods commonly found in modern laboratories.

Point-of-care cardiac analyser

A POC acute care analyser for the management of patients with cardiovascular disease symptoms, the Stratus CS 200 Acute Care Diagnostic System is designed to enhance simple operation and instrument management at the point of care to help facilitate rapid decision making and optimal patient care. The analyser has a user-friendly, touch screen interface that makes it easy to navigate through menus. A barcode reader eliminates the need for manual entry and reduces potential for error. The system also offers bi-directional connectivity, which allows for safe and secure results transmission with third-party data managers, and provides capability for remote operator lock-out and monitoring of calibration dates. In addition, the Stratus CS 200 system automatically spins whole blood into plasma for testing, reducing the risk of biohazard exposure and ensures results will be comparable to lab tests run on plasma samples. The Stratus CS 200 system delivers a robust cardiac assay menu, including high-sensitivity Troponin I. First results are available in as fast as 14 minutes, and subsequent results available in as little as four minutes. Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the number one cause of death globally. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), in 2008, an estimated 17.3 million people died from CVDs, representing 30 percent of all global deaths. This number is expected to grow to 25 million by 2030. For patients with CVD, it is critical that their acute care be timely, safe and effective.

Homocysteine reagent

BioSystems launches a new reagent for measurement of homocysteine in serum and plasma. Homocysteine (Hcy) is a thiol containing amino acid synthesized as an intermediate product of methionine metabolism. Homocysteine levels in serum or plasma are measured for diagnosing and monitoring different conditions. Hyperhomocysteinemia is considered to be involved in many diseases from cardiovascular (stroke and hypertension risk factor) to neurological diseases (such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy and cerebrovascular disease) among others (diabetes, osteoporosis…), so its measurement is important for the detection and monitoring of many different conditions. It is also important in case of folate and/or vitamin B12 deficiency and as part of neonatal screening for homocystinuria diagnosis. BioSystems introduces this method in its portfolio for both manual and automated systems (applications available on request). Different presentations are available: Ax5 (50mL; ref. 12737) & ASR (76 mL; ref. 21737). Controls and calibrators are not included.
