HORIBA expands UK analytical capabilities with new science hub

Japanese analytical technology leader HORIBA has launched a comprehensive scientific collaboration facility in Nuneaton, expanding UK access to advanced measurement technologies for biopharmaceuticals, diagnostics, and clean energy research. The 290m² facility strengthens the company’s global network of customer-focused analytical centres.

Strategic expansion strengthens UK scientific infrastructure

HORIBA’s newest Analytical Solution Plaza represents a significant investment in UK scientific capabilities, positioned strategically at MIRA Tech Park in Nuneaton. The facility was inaugurated by HORIBA Group CEO Atsushi Horiba alongside British Ambassador to Japan Julia Longbottom CMG, emphasising the international significance of this technological partnership.
The comprehensive facility houses cutting-edge analytical instruments spanning multiple research domains, from biopharmaceuticals and cell therapy to environmental monitoring and advanced materials characterisation. This breadth of capability addresses critical analytical needs across Britain’s diverse scientific landscape.

Advanced analytical technologies for medical applications

The Plaza’s medical and life sciences capabilities encompass several key analytical domains essential for contemporary biomedical research. Medical and veterinary diagnostics technologies feature prominently, alongside specialised equipment for biopharmaceutical development and cell and gene therapy applications.
Clinical diagnostics capabilities represent a particularly significant addition to UK analytical infrastructure, providing researchers with access to sophisticated measurement technologies typically reserved for major institutional laboratories. These resources support the growing demand for precision medicine and personalised therapeutic approaches.
“Our new UK-based Plaza aims to enable our customers to really ‘see inside’ HORIBA; it will demonstrate our full breadth of technological capabilities and expertise across all of our fields of business,” said Dr Simon FitzGerald FRSC, HORIBA UK’s Head of Science and Technology.

Collaborative research model drives innovation

The facility operates under HORIBA’s established collaborative research framework, offering analytical testing services on a contract basis whilst facilitating direct researcher engagement through demonstrations, feasibility studies, and educational programmes. This model bridges the gap between advanced analytical capabilities and practical research applications.
The Plaza’s integration with HORIBA’s global network provides UK researchers access to international expertise and technologies through remote connectivity. This approach leverages the company’s worldwide analytical capabilities whilst maintaining local accessibility for British scientific institutions.

Impact on UK medical research landscape

Located within MIRA Tech Park’s concentrated scientific community of over 1,500 personnel, the facility benefits from proximity to complementary research initiatives spanning clean energy, cybersecurity, and autonomous systems. This environment creates opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration particularly relevant to medical technology development.
The facility’s commitment to STEM outreach programmes addresses educational imperatives within UK scientific training, providing direct engagement opportunities for students across educational levels.
HORIBA’s investment reflects the company’s “HONMAMON” philosophy of authentic excellence, emphasising solutions developed with dedication to addressing real-world scientific challenges.
