HORIBA introduces compact haematology analysers with integrated ESR and CBC/DIFF
HORIBA has expanded its compact haematology instrument range with the launch of new models featuring on-board Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) testing. The Yumizen H550E (autoloader), H500E CT (closed tube), and H500E OT (open tube) now offer combined testing for CBC/DIFF with ESR results from whole blood in 60 seconds, enhancing their utility for inflammatory disease assessment.
Novel approach to ESR measurement
The company has developed a patented technology called “CoRA” (Correlated Rouleaux Analysis) to integrate ESR into these analysers. This innovation allows for a complete blood count (CBC), 5-population white blood cell differential (DIFF), and rapid ESR – calibrated to the Westergren reference method – to be performed on a single compact device. The integration promises to reduce per-test costs, decrease turnaround times, and optimise laboratory space utilisation.
Enhanced connectivity and support features
The new models boast improved connectivity options for data management through HORIBA’s Yumizen P8000 middleware. Additionally, they incorporate Yumicare, a remote technical support tool that enables secure monitoring of workload, reagent consumption, quality control, and instrument alarms.
Recent enhancements to the Yumizen H550 range include i-DoubleDiff technologies:
• An artificial intelligence-driven infectious disease screening capability, which can flag potential cases of malaria and dengue fever
• An expanded leucocyte differentiation capability, now offering both normal and abnormal leucocyte counts, increasing the available parameters from 27 to 37.
Arnaud Pradel, President of HORIBA ABX SAS, noted: “Building on the global success of our previous Yumizen H550 range, we have designed the new analysers to meet the increasing demand for affordable, robust, and highly capable haematology analysers with connectivity that are suitable for any lab environment.”
The Yumizen H550 range is positioned for use in various clinical settings, including critical care, oncology, infectious disease management, blood banks, satellite laboratories, and health centres. Its combination of advanced technology, affordability, and ease of use makes it a versatile option for small to mid-throughput laboratories seeking to expand their haematological testing capabilities.
