New software improves flow chemistry capabilities for researchers
Vapourtec, a leading manufacturer of laboratory-scale flow chemistry instruments, has significantly upgraded its E-Series flow chemistry system with the introduction of optional user interface software. This development promises to expand the scope of research possibilities for chemists working in drug discovery and synthesis.
Automated reactions and optimisation
The new software, developed in response to customer feedback, leverages intuitive touchscreen technology to enable fully automated reactions that can run unattended. This advancement lays the groundwork for automated reaction optimisation, potentially accelerating the drug discovery process.
Machine learning integration
A key feature of the software is its compatibility with machine learning (ML) algorithms through an industry-standard OPC UA interface. This integration could pave the way for more efficient and data-driven chemical synthesis processes.
Duncan Guthrie, Managing Director of Vapourtec, highlighted the software’s data logging and graphing capabilities:
“The new software’s data logging and graphing capability sets new standards for the industry. Understanding and reviewing real-time data could not be easier.”
The interface allows users to select specific data sets for presentation and define the number of graphs displayed. Real-time zooming of X and Y data axes is facilitated by the touchscreen, enabling more detailed analysis of reaction progress.
Expanded functionality
Additional features include a schematic editor for defining experimental settings and the ability to run multiple, fully automated reaction conditions. The software also supports the integration of external equipment, including additional pumps, reactors, recirculators, and inline analytics.
Furthermore, the software provides an interface for Process Analytical Technology (PAT), enhancing real-time monitoring and control of critical process parameters.
The E-Series system, launched in 2013, has become a core resource in laboratories worldwide, with 350 installations globally and 270 peer-reviewed citations to date.
