OHAUS Corporation has introduced a new series of centrifuges designed for in vitro diagnostic applications, featuring natural refrigerant R290 with substantially reduced environmental impact compared to conventional cooling systems.
Clinical compliance meets environmental responsibility
The Frontier Multi-Pro, Multi and Micro IVD Series achieve full compliance with the In Vitro Diagnostic Medical Devices Regulation (EU) 2017/746, class A, positioning the equipment for clinical diagnostic laboratories across European healthcare facilities. The centrifuges support critical sample separation and analysis procedures that inform clinical decision-making, with in vitro diagnostics driving 70% of clinical decisions according to World Health Organization data.
Technical specifications and environmental impact
The distinguishing feature of this product line centres on the integration of R290, a natural refrigerant with a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of 3. This represents a reduction of over 700 times compared to the previously used synthetic refrigerant R452A, which carries a GWP of 2140. The company maintains that optimal cooling efficiency has been preserved whilst significantly reducing environmental impact. Applications in clinical diagnostics The centrifuge range addresses requirements in hospitals and diagnostic centres, supporting diverse biological sample processing workflows. The equipment is designed to deliver consistent performance for laboratories conducting diagnostic testing across multiple sample types and clinical applications.
