Evaluation of the Microlute® CP Reversed Phase Solid Phase Extraction 96 well-plate by HPLC-MS

BACKGROUND Solid phase extraction (SPE) is a sample preparation method for the clean-up of samples before chromatographic analysis such as HPLC, and GC. SPE offers a number of advantages to the analyst, including less system downtime and troubleshooting, cleaner chromatograms with a reduction of contaminating compounds, and greater reproducible analyte recoveries. Traditionally, SPE methods use […]

chalmers RNA tracking

Researchers make major breakthrough for tracking RNA with fluorescence

Researchers at Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden, have succeeded in developing a method to label mRNA molecules, and thereby follow, in real time, their path through cells, using a microscope – without affecting their properties or subsequent activity. The breakthrough could be of great importance in facilitating the development of new RNA-based medicines.

Ziath CryzoTraq tubes

Ziath offers CryzoTraq tubes for cryogenic storage of biological specimens

Ziath CryzoTraq tubes

Ziath, a leading supplier of equipment, software and consumables to simplify your sample management process, offers a range of CryzoTraq™ tubes designed for high integrity cryogenic storage of biological specimens at temperatures down to -196°C.

CryzoTraq 2D barcoded tubes are manufactured in a Class 7 cleanroom using medical-grade polypropylene. Each batch is beta radiation sterilized by an electron beam, eliminating potential biological contaminants from the product preparation workflow, ensuring that the cryotubes are free from RNase, DNase and other unwanted substances.

Proprietary 2-stage injection moulded cap

Ziath’s 2D barcoded tubes are guaranteed leak-free and feature a proprietary 2-stage injection moulded cap that avoids using traditional sealing solutions such as O-rings. As a consequence, under storage conditions, even in liquid nitrogen storage systems, this advanced sealing solution prevents contamination or loss of samples.

CryzoTraq 2D barcoded tubes are suitable for use with most cryoracking systems as they are available in 2 ml and 5 ml standard size formats. These advanced storage tubes are supplied with both internal and external threaded caps, ensuring compatibility with almost any capping / decapping system.

Datamatrix barcode

All CryzoTraq tubes have a 2D Datamatrix barcode inserted in the base of the tube. The insert is secured in place by the use of ultrasound to weld it into place. During the manufacturing process, the linear barcode is printed onto the side of the tube first, and the 2D code is automatically generated from the linear barcode therefore ensuring the two barcodes will always be the same with no errors.

Dimensions Life Sciences & Chemistry

Digital Science launches new version of Dimensions Life Sciences & Chemistry for researchers

Dimensions Life Sciences & Chemistry

Digital Science, a technology company working to make research more efficient, has launched a new version of its popular Dimensions platform – Dimensions Life Sciences & Chemistry (Dimensions L&C) – focused on life sciences and chemistry research activities.

Dimensions L&C analyses more than 120 million scientific publications, millions of patents, grants and clinical trial documents. It is both larger than other databases, and unlike traditional manually curated tools, applies up-to-the-minute semantic text analysis tools and ontologies, providing powerful up-to-date discovery functionality previously unavailable at such scale.

In the past, literature search tools required the user to know exactly what they wanted to find, narrowing down the relevant results and confirming or invalidating pre-defined hypotheses. Thanks to insights systematically captured in ontologies and computational power, researchers can get answers to complex and diverse queries directly from the source content.

Biosequence search

Users can search for small molecules, chemical reactions and gene sequences, validate biomarkers, understand disease mechanisms and identify drug targets. They can also quickly discover relevant chemical information in broader life sciences and chemistry research areas working with a chemistry structure editor and a biosequence search for nucleotides and proteins. Different from other products, data is identified in full-text documents on a daily basis, creating a highly comprehensive and up-to-date resource.

Collaboration with OntoChem

Digital Science recently announced a collaboration with OntoChem. Dimensions L&C uses the ontologies from OntoChem, which include around 40 million concepts and 100 million synonyms from more than 35 knowledge domains such as compounds, proteins, diseases, drugs, materials, methods, devices or species, enabling a high quality, context sensitive knowledge discovery tool.

Christian Herzog, CEO Dimensions, said: “There is an ever growing publication haystack and researchers need to find the needles of information quickly and efficiently. In the past you needed to know what to ask the search engine in order to find it, but with Dimensions L&C, we are now providing next generation discoverability for life sciences and chemistry researchers: an ontology driven retrieval engine which identifies relationships and links in more than 120 million publications, allowing the researcher to move on from search to AI-supported discovery.”

Dimensions is used by scientists, academic institutions, funders and industry. Its database offers the most comprehensive collection of linked data in a single platform; from grants, publications, datasets and clinical trials to patents and policy documents. Because Dimensions maps the entire research lifecycle, research can be followed from funding through output to impact. It has transformed the way research is discovered, accessed and evaluated.
