Simplified ID/AST testing system

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Processing pathogen panels in seconds, the autoSCAN-4 system simplifies identification and antibiotic suceptibility testing while standardising results. It can be used as an excellent supplemental system for difficult organisms or as a primary instrument for low volume usage. The system includes LabPro Information Management software designed to simplify workflow and minimise technologist interaction while accommodating differing regional and institutional environments through extensive customisation features. The optional LabPro AlertEX software eliminates manual review for unusual conditions or results and integrates institution-specific resolution guidance into the workflow. Panels include conventional panels with direct, non-ID-dependant Minimal Inhibitory Concentrations (MICs), to help zero in on emerging resistance, and speciality ID panels for reduced TAT when speed is critical.

Advanced plate options for immunoassay protocols

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

This newly released portfolio of immunoassay surfaces ensures that users get the best results from their assays. Passive binding surfaces are available to absorb medium to large biomolecules in a range of orientations. For more specific binding, the Nunc CovaLink plates facilitate coupling of molecules bearing a free carboxyl or phosphate group, enabling peptides, haptens and DNA to be effectively coupled. In addition, the Immobilizer amino plate forms stable covalent bonds with the free amino acids or sulphhydryl groups of the biomolecule, eliminating the need for a blocking step. Affinity capture surfaces offer even more specific binding, with reduced variability in molecular orientation and improved signal to noise ratio. In order to help users to select the best plate format to meet the demands of their application, the interactive and searchable immunoassay plate selector guide is a free resource, providing in-depth detail about the range of plates available and their applications.

Immunochromatographic assay for hepatitis C virus

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

It has been estimated that 3 to 4 million people are infected with hepatitis C virus (HCV) each year. Four out of five people develop chronic hepatitis C infection, which can subsequently lead to liver cirrhosis and/or liver cancer. Early detection is the key to combating hepatitis; hepatitis C infection can be effectively controlled or treated if it is diagnosed early. HCV ELISA and rapid tests are widely used for screening and diagnosis of hepatitis C infection. These tests use specific antigens from the structural region and non-structural regions of the virus to detect the presence of antibodies to HCV. Reactive samples from screening tests are then confirmed by immunoblot assay. The MULTISURE HCV Antibody Assay is a qualitative immunochromatographic assay, intended for the detection of antibodies specific to HCV core, NS3, NS4 and NS5 antigens. The test is based on the capture of HCV antibodies using immobilised HCV recombinant antigens on a nitrocellulose membrane and the subsequent detection of captured analyte using goat anti-human IgG conjugated to colloidal gold. It has been developed from the patented reverse-flow test platform, giving greater sensitivity and easy-to-read visual signals. Similar to a confirmatory immunoblot, this assay can detect and differentiate the structural and non-structural HCV proteins. The test result pattern may, therefore, offer information such as the possible phase of the Hepatitis C infection. This simple and rapid assay takes only 15 minutes and is easy to use. It is an instrument-free platform and does not require highly trained personnel to perform the test, thus making it suitable for use in a point-of-care setting. With shortened turnaround time, patients are diagnosed early and have wider access to treatment and care.

Cryptosporidium/Giardia enzyme immunoassay

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Cryptosporidiosis is routinely diagnosed by microscopic analysis of stool samples using organic dyes, or by immunostaining with direct fluorescent antibody, and it can be difficult to detect. Similarly, Giardia lamblia infection is frequently misdiagnosed, relying on poorly performing antigen-based testing. A new enzyme immunoassay (EIA) for the qualitative detection of Cryptosporidium and G. lamblia antigens in human faecal specimens from patients displaying gastrointestinal symptoms, the Prolisa Cryptosporidium/Giardia EIA kit offers precise results with high sensitivity and excellent specificity, enabling accurate diagnosis of infection. This convenient, rapid and easy-to-use method of detecting Cryptosporidium and G. lamblia is supplied in a 96-well test size consisting of detachable stripwells. This assay uses monoclonal anti-Cryptosporidium and anti-G. lamblia antibodies to ensure excellent sensitivity and specificity for high value diagnostic results. It can be performed manually as well as on most automated platforms for increased workflow flexibility.

Aspergillus detection test

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

An evaluation to detect invasive Aspergillosis (IA) in a mixed population of 158 patients with underlying haematological or critical illness using the new commercial PCR test, the MycAssay, has been completed. The single-centre prospective evaluation tested the reliability and performance of the assay compared with clinical diagnosis and conventional diagnostic tests, such as culture and one of the current commercial gold-standards which is based around the detection of galactomannan (GM) in serum. The data generated from bronchoalveolar lavage [BAL] samples showed that the assay is a sensitive and specific molecular test for the diagnosis of IA which, in these early studies, appears to perform better than other assays in the study and is far superior to culture. Invasive aspergillosis is usually a hidden, clinical silent disease. Early detection of IA is critical for improved patient outcomes. Current tests are insensitive or suffer from false-positive and false-negative results. These new data are very promising in the context of haematological or critical illness and hopefully can be introduced into routine fungal disease guidelines at the earliest opportunity.
