Secondary Tubes

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Versatility is the great advantage of the new VACUETTE® Secondary Tubes developed by Greiner Bio-One. Th e tubes are available in two different types of material: PP (Polypropylene) and PET (Polyethylene terephthalate). They are perfectly suited for various uses inside and outside the laboratory, e.g. aliquoting, pooling, centrifuging, freezing, storing or transporting sample material. Thanks to the special screw closure, they fulfill the IATA guidelines for safe sample transport. Naturally they also meet the CLSI Standard AUTO 1-A. The tubes are easy to open, cold-resistant (-80 °C), transparent and shatter-proof. In order to off er the appropriate packaging for each application, Greiner Bio-One has developed two versions. VACUETTE® Secondary Tubes MULTIPLEX are packaged in pull-open plastic bags, whereas VACUETTE® Secondary Tubes SIMPLEX were developed especially for use with automated laboratory equipment. They are offered in environmentally friendly cardboard packaging. As they are already packaged pre-aligned in the cardboard container, they can be transferred directly into the storage container (plastic or metal box) of the laboratory machine. This is especially practical and saves valuable working time.

Monoclonal antibodies to Clostridia GDH

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhoea (CDAD) is the leading cause of nosocomial diarrhoea. The spread of this bacterium is difficult to control due to its resistant spores that survive on many surfaces, so rapid detection is crucial to its control. Most rapid tests target the toxins (A & B) produced during the infection. Another diagnostic target is glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH), an enzyme produced and released during bacterial growth. Studies have shown that GDH detection together with toxin detection by EIA or PCR significantly improves assay specificity. Three new monoclonal antibodies to Clostridia GDH validated by ELISA are now available. These antibodies represent a new set of tools for rapid detection development.

ELISA assay for 25-Hydroxyvitamin D

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Based on recently developed monoclonal antibodies, an innovative easy-to-use ELISA assay with all-in-one (AIO) technology for the measurement of 25-Hydroxyvitamin D TOTAL (D2 and D3) has been launched. These antibodies have already been successfully used in the 25-Hydroxyvitamin D TOTAL RIA assay. Specifically designed to be used manually as well as on open automated systems, this ELISA uses a pre-treatment step that is executed directly in the assay well, and has a total assay time of less than 4 hours. The assay has been validated on the Stratec GEMINI open ELISA automated analyser (Stratec Biomedical GMBH, Germany) and a validated protocol is available to all Stratec GEMINI users. Offering major advantages with respect to ease-of-use to laboratory technicians (AIO technology), this assay is ideal for medium-sized and smaller labs with a throuput of 10 to 80 samples per day. Higher sample numbers can easily be run on any open automated ELISA platform. Assays for 25-Hydroxyvitamin D3 specific RIA , 25-Hydroxyvitamin D Total RIA and 1,25-Dihydroxyvitamin D RIA, as well as monoclonal antibodies against 25 Hydroxyvitamin D (total), are available for use by other assay developers.

Benchtop-sized image cytometer

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

The launch of the Cytell Image Cytometer, a benchtop-sized image cytometer for rapid cell characterisation, introduces researchers to a new, simpler, faster and more productive way to conduct their cell analysis. The new system enables researchers to capture detailed data about their cells quickly while using minimal sample volumes. Data can be acquired for up to eight samples at a time and results are delivered through an intuitive graphical interface in less than two-and-a-half minutes. The system simplifies researchers’ working practices and increases productivity by removing the need to use specialised cell analysis instruments. Large cell analysis instruments are often in a shared facility, which can be difficult to access at the right time, and are time-consuming to use.

Automated cervical cancer sample preparation

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

A walk-away automated system for cervical cancer slide preparation, ThinPrep 5000 is capable of processing up to 20 gynaecological (or general cytology) slides per batch utilising ThinPrep technology for dispersion, collection and transfer of cells. During dispersion the sample vial is spun to separate debris and mucus and to randomise the cells. These are then collected on the exterior surface of the Pap test filter with the help of a vacuum and software that monitors the rate of flow. Finally the cells are transferred to a defined circular area on a microscope slide for examination. Thirty-five slides can be processed per hour.

Quick detection of Legionella IgM antibodies

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Legionella pneumophila is responsible for at least two diseases in humans: Legionnaires’ disease, which is a severe form of pneumonia, clinically indistinguishable from other types of bacterial pneumonia, and Pontiac fever which is a flu-like illness. Legionella pneumophila is often associated with systemic manifestations and is responsible for up to 10% of hospitalized pneumonia cases acquired in the community. Statens Serum Institut has developed Immuview® Legionella Blood Test which is a lateral flow test for identification of IgM against Legionella pneumophila serogroup 1 and 3. It has been developed as a test primarily for patients with severe pneumonia; who have travelled abroad or been in areas with outbreak of Legionella; who have had indications of Legionella in a urine test; who have caught pneumonia when hospitalized. The Immuview® Legionella Blood test makes it possible to identify IgM antibodies against Legionella pneumophila serogroup 1 and 3 early in the course of the illness, and at the stage when the patient is normally admitted to the hospital. The test contains Legionella pneumophila serogroup 1 and 3 antigens, which have been applied to a lateral flow membrane. The test is simple to use and shows a result within 20 minutes. A drop of blood is added to the sample port, and a minute later four drops of running buffer is added to the buffer addition port. After 20 minutes the result can be read. ImmuView™ Legionella Blood Test is sold in kits of 10 or 50 tests including buffer, a positive control, and a score card for semi quantitative measuring.

Low level testosterone measurement

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

With a simple blood test, the ARCHITECT 2nd Generation Testosterone Assay can accurately measure the wide range of testosterone levels seen in a number of different patient populations and clinical settings. Testosterone assays play an important role in the diagnosis and management of many medical conditions in men, women, and children. However, many currently available testosterone assays are not sensitive enough to measure low levels of testosterone. This system allows reliable and reproducible assessment of testosterone in patients suspected to have low circulating testosterone levels, attributes which can be beneficial for patients and their doctors as well as for the laboratory. The device provides consistent and accurate testing of testosterone levels across a wide range of concentrations and fulfils the need for a rapid, sensitive and fully automated testosterone assay. The assay is a chemiluminescent microparticle immunoassay for the quantitative determination of testosterone in human serum and plasma. Measurements of testosterone are used in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders involving 1) the male sex hormones (androgens) including primary and secondary hypogonadism, delayed or precocious puberty, and impotence in males; and 2) in females, hirsutism (excessive hair) and virilization (masculization) due to tumours, polycystic ovaries, and androgenital syndromes. Health care providers can now confidently measure testosterone levels and use this information to improve treatment decisions for their patients.
