SPT Labtech enables automated NGS library preparation workflows on firefly platform
SPT Labtech has announced the availability of validated automated workflows for Twist Bioscience’s next-generation sequencing (NGS) library preparation kits on its firefly® liquid handling platform. The workflows, developed in collaboration with Twist Bioscience, are accessible directly through the firefly cloud and are designed to improve throughput and reproducibility in NGS library preparation.
Addressing demand for standardised automation
The development responds to growing demand across genomics research and core facilities for standardised automated protocols that reduce hands-on time whilst maintaining consistency, particularly as sequencing volumes continue to rise. The validated workflows support two Twist Bioscience products: the FlexPrep™ UHT Library Preparation Kit and the Enzymatic Fragmentation Kit 2.0.
Workflow design and technical capabilities
The automated FlexPrep workflow incorporates on-deck fragmentation and ligation, alongside an auto-normalising protocol that consolidates indexing and final clean-up to four columns of a 96-well plate. This configuration increases throughput for laboratories without access to a 384-well thermal cycler and supports more consistent processing across samples. Integration of the Enzymatic Fragmentation Kit 2.0 with firefly is intended to deliver reduced error rates and more accurate sequencing results.
