Werfen commences European commercialisation of award-winning GEM Premier 7000 haemolysis detection system
Werfen has announced the European expansion of its breakthrough GEM Premier 7000 with iQM3 blood gas testing system, following successful clinical adoption across North America. The system addresses a critical gap in point-of-care diagnostics by integrating real-time haemolysis detection – a first in blood gas analysis technology.
Revolutionary haemolysis detection tackles hidden diagnostic challenge
The GEM Premier 7000 represents a significant advancement in addressing preanalytical errors, which account for up to 70% of blood gas testing inaccuracies. Haemolysis occurs when red blood cell membranes rupture, releasing cellular contents that can elevate potassium results by up to 152%. This invisible phenomenon in whole blood samples can lead to mis-interpretation of critical electrolyte levels, potentially causing inappropriate patient management, extended hospital stays, and increased healthcare costs.

Comprehensive testing capabilities in 45 seconds
The system delivers rapid, comprehensive analysis within 45 seconds, providing results for pH, pCO2, pO2, sodium, potassium, chloride, ionised calcium, glucose, lactate, haematocrit, total bilirubin and CO-Oximetry parameters (tHb, O2Hb, COHb, MetHb, HHb, sO2) whilst simultaneously detecting haemolysis.
