Siemens Healthineers transforms allergy diagnostics with precision peanut component testing

Siemens Healthineers has launched a comprehensive expansion of its 3gAllergy diagnostic capabilities, introducing nine new component allergens that deliver unprecedented precision in allergy management. Six of these target peanut allergies – the primary culprit behind fatal food-related anaphylaxis – whilst additional components address house dust mites and wheat sensitivities. This enhancement elevates the IMMULITE 2000 XPi System’s total allergen portfolio to over 500 distinct components.

Component testing unlocks personalised allergy management

This diagnostic breakthrough addresses a critical clinical need, as 30-40% of the global population battles one or more allergies. Traditional allergy tests simply confirm sensitisation, but component-level analysis revolutionises patient care by providing clinicians with granular insights to distinguish between high-risk sensitisations and more benign exposures.

“Understanding the root causes of allergies can help alleviate anxiety and be the difference between reasonable lifestyle modifications or life-saving precautions,” said Duncan Porter, head of Immulite, Plasma Proteins, and Syva, the allergy testing and specialty testing platforms from Siemens Healthineers. Clinical breakthrough enables precision patient care Component allergen testing transforms patient management by minimising unnecessary dietary restrictions. Rather than blanket peanut avoidance, patients can now make informed decisions based on their specific risk profiles for adverse reactions.

This enhanced diagnostic capability empowers physicians to craft highly personalised allergy management strategies, dramatically improving quality of life by reducing unnecessary lifestyle restrictions whilst maintaining appropriate safety protocols for high-risk sensitisations.

Market accessibility and regulatory status

The nine new component allergens are CE marked and now widely available, though availability varies by country. These allergens are not available for sale in the United States.

Porter emphasised that “this level of insight is now accessible on our established laboratory analyzer to help more patients get the answers they need, faster and more affordably.”
