Thermo Fisher Scientific launches compact electrophoresis system for routine nucleic acid verification
Thermo Fisher Scientific has introduced the Invitrogen™ E-Gel™ Power Snap Lite Electrophoresis System, a compact, ready-to-use platform designed to simplify routine nucleic acid verification in molecular biology laboratories.
The system combines gel electrophoresis and imaging within a single instrument, removing the requirement for gel casting, buffer preparation, and separate imaging equipment. The result is a streamlined load-run-analyse workflow intended to reduce hands-on time and improve reproducibility across day-to-day laboratory operations.
Addressing routine workflow demands
The Power Snap Lite system is positioned for molecular biology researchers working in biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and academic settings, as well as scientists currently using pour-your-own gel workflows. Primary applications include PCR verification, RNA quality assessment, and routine DNA and RNA analysis. Anjali Shah, Senior Director and General Manager, PCR, Molecular Biology, Thermo Fisher Scientific, commented: “Labs need faster, simpler ways to handle routine workflows without sacrificing reliability. With Power Snap Lite, we’ve combined key steps into one easy-to-use system so researchers can move from sample to result more efficiently.”
Key technical features
The system supports the following capabilities:
• Running and imaging gels within a single integrated platform
• Rapid verification of both DNA and RNA samples
• Reduced manual steps compared with traditional pour-your-own gel methods
By consolidating multiple workflow stages into one device, the system aims to improve consistency – a consideration of particular relevance in high-throughput laboratory environments where variability between gel preparations can affect result reliability.
Complementing existing platforms
The Power Snap Lite is designed for routine and low-throughput workflows and sits alongside the Invitrogen™ E-Gel™ Power Snap Plus system, which supports more advanced analysis requirements. Together, the two systems offer laboratories a scalable approach to nucleic acid electrophoresis, from rapid verification tasks through to higher-complexity analytical applications.
