Broken String Biosciences launches BaseMap ABE to enable genome-wide off-target characterisation in base editing
Cambridge, UK-based Broken String Biosciences has introduced BaseMap™ ABE, a new addition to its INDUCE-seq® platform designed to support genome-wide off-target characterisation for adenine base editing (ABE) applications in therapeutic development.
Extending an established platform
Built on the company’s existing INDUCE-seq technology, BaseMap ABE broadens the platform’s remit to cover ABE workflows, adding to capabilities already established for other editing modalities. The launch marks what the company describes as the first phase of its wider expansion into base editing applications.
Base editing allows precise single-base genomic changes and has become an increasingly prominent tool in therapeutic development. As more programmes adopt ABE, the company noted that researchers require reproducible and standardised methods to comprehensively characterise unintended off-target editing events associated
with this modality.
Addressing off-target characterisation
Rather than relying on prediction-based approaches, BaseMap ABE generates genome-wide data directly from biologically relevant cells, giving researchers a view of editor specificity under physiologically relevant conditions. According to the company, this enables rapid, unbiased identification of off-target events, alongside standardised and robust data intended to support guide optimisation, editor selection, and preclinical decision-making.
Early access for genome editing researchers
Broken String Biosciences is inviting researchers to gain early access to the platform through an Early Access Program, through which the company will work directly with teams developing genome editing therapies. This collaboration is intended to give early adopters first-hand experience of the platform while generating feedback to inform future product development.

The addition of BaseMap ABE builds on Broken String Biosciences’ established work applying INDUCE-seq to off-target profiling in genome editing research, extending that foundation to the growing base editing space.
