Vetter adds 10 commercial filling lines as first pre-sterilised syringe line becomes operational

Vetter, the contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO) headquartered in Ravensburg, Germany, is expanding its commercial fill-and-finish network. The company says the investment programme will strengthen its global manufacturing operations and support the evolving needs of pharmaceutical and biotechnology customers. The long-term plan includes ten additional commercial filling lines.

Phased rollout across existing and new sites Seven of the ten lines are being implemented across Vetter’s existing sites.

This phased approach will make additional manufacturing resources available over the coming years. The first new line, designed to fill pre-sterilised syringes, recently became operational. A second line is expected to follow by the end of 2026. A further five lines for aseptic production are planned through 2028.

The final three lines are planned for a new commercial site in Saarlouis, Germany, which is expected to become operational by 2031.

Henryk Badack, Managing Director, said: “Pharma and biotech companies seek partners with a proven track record, operational expertise, and the capabilities to support their current and future drug products. This demand is reflected in our strategy for sustainable growth. Through our ongoing investments, we are expanding our global manufacturing resources and strengthening our ability to support customers throughout the lifecycle of their products in international markets.”

Investment in supporting infrastructure

The additional filling capacity is accompanied by wider investment in operational infrastructure. Current initiatives include expanding compounding, pharmaceutical storage and visual inspection capabilities. Vetter is also implementing advanced cleanroom technology and increasing automation and digitalisation. Visual inspection and cleanroom control are integral to the quality assurance of sterile injectable products, so these upgrades sit alongside the new lines rather than apart from them.

Managing Director Carsten Press commented: “Our phased approach enables  us to make additional capacity available while systematically expanding our global production network. These investments provide customers with scalable operations, well-managed supply chains, and high-quality aseptic manufacturing to support their long-term growth.”

Vetter has production facilities in Germany, Austria and the US, and maintains sales locations in Japan, China, South Korea and Singapore. It employs 7,400 people. The company supports customers from drug product development through clinical and commercial filling, and offers a range of assembly and packaging services for vials, syringes and cartridges. It also develops prefilled drug-delivery systems in collaboration with its customers.

Founded in Ravensburg in 1950, Vetter remains family-owned. It is a member of the UN Global Compact and the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), and holds platinum status in the EcoVadis sustainability ranking.
