Human lecithin-cholesterol acyltransferase ELISA
Lecithin-cholesterol acyltransferase (LCAT) is a 58 kDa glycoprotein responsible for cholesterol esterification in plasma. LCAT has an important physiological role in the maturation of nascent, discoidal high density lipoproteins (HDL) into mature, spherical HDL, through the generation of a cholesteryl ester (CE)-enriched core. Plasma and tissue accumulation of free cholesterol and nascent HDL particles have been observed in familial LCAT-defi cient subjects. The enzyme has also been implicated in the reverse cholesterol transport pathway. Plasma LCAT activity is elevated in metabolic syndrome and may be a marker of subclinical atherosclerosis. The Human LCAT ELISA kit is suitable for serum, plasma (EDTA, citrate) and cerebrospinal fl uids samples. Th e 96 well-microtitre plate format can be used with standard ELISA equipment.
