Bio-Rad expands Foresight Pro chromatography column range with Nuvia resins
Bio-Rad Laboratories has extended its Foresight Pro range of prepacked, process-scale chromatography columns to include formats packed with the company’s Nuvia chromatography resins, broadening the options available for downstream purification steps in biological drug development and manufacturing.
The expanded range comprises columns packed with anion exchange (AEX) media – Nuvia Q Media and Nuvia HP-Q Media – alongside the cation exchange (CEX) resin Nuvia HR-S Media, and two mixed-mode (MM) resins: Nuvia cPrime Media, a CEX-hydrophobic interaction chromatography (CEX-HIC) resin, and Nuvia aPrime 4A Media, an AEX-HIC resin. These additions sit alongside the existing Foresight Pro columns packed with CHT™ Ceramic Hydroxyapatite Media Type I, Type II and XT, which are already used in a number of regulatory-approved manufacturing processes internationally. Columns prepacked with Nuvia resins are currently available with internal diameters ranging from 5 to 13 cm and bed heights of 10 and 20 cm. Bio-Rad has confirmed that columns with internal diameters of 20 to 45 cm are in development, with availability anticipated in early 2027.
The Nuvia resins are built on a polyacrylamide-based bead designed for use across laboratory-scale purification, process development, pilot-scale production and commercial biomanufacturing. According to Bio-Rad, the hydrophilic bead polymer is intended to minimise non-specific binding interactions while maintaining consistent dynamic binding capacity across a range of flow rates, alongside fast mass transfer and stability under varied process conditions.
All Foresight Pro columns are manufactured within an ISO Class 7 cleanroom environment, described by the company as providing good manufacturing practice (GMP)-ready columns.
Single-lot packing approach

Bio-Rad positions the prepacked format as offering a more cost-effective and flexible alternative to customer-packed columns, with the standardised design available across a range of diameters and bed volumes.
