Bruker showcases microbiology and infection diagnostics portfolio at ASM Microbe 2026

Bruker Corporation’s Microbiology & Infection Diagnostics (BMID) division used the ASM Microbe 2026 meeting in Washington, D.C. (4 June 2026) to present a broad range of new and updated solutions spanning microbial identification, sepsis diagnostics, molecular testing, and next-generation sequencing (NGS) workflows.

Enhanced clinical capabilities for the MALDI Biotyper CA system

Central to Bruker’s clinical laboratory offering is the MALDI Biotyper® CA System, which has been expanded under FDA Claims 7 and 8 to broaden microbial identification confidence in clinical settings. Supporting these new claims are the MBT Compass® HT CA software and the MBT FAST™ Shuttle US IVD, alongside an expanded FDA-cleared reference library now covering 549 clinically validated microbial species, including bacteria, anaerobes, and yeasts.

Rapid AST workflow for bloodstream infection and sepsis

Bruker highlighted its focus on bloodstream infection and sepsis diagnostics, introducing a rapid antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) workflow currently under development. Combining the MALDI Biotyper CA System with the Bruker Arc™ automated sample preparation solution for positive blood cultures, the workflow is intended to support earlier clinical decision-making in critically ill patients by delivering faster, actionable diagnostic results.

New RUO/GP solutions and IR Biotyper classifiers

Several solutions recently launched at ESCMID Global 2026 were introduced to the US market at ASM 2026, including the MBT Easy T® Kit (GP), and MBT Compass HT RUO/GP v.500, which features an expanded library of 5,325 species – an addition of more than 600 new species, with approximately 30% improved coverage of filamentous fungi. The MBT HT Library Creator (RUO) module enables laboratories to generate, manage, and share custom libraries within the MBT Compass HT environment for research purposes. New classifiers for the
IR Biotyper® are also being introduced to further support rapid outbreak investigation and surveillance.

NGS and molecular diagnostics integration

The MBioSEQ® Ridom Typer software (RUO), which made its US market debut at ASM 2026, supports reflex NGS testing as an extension of microbial identification and outbreak analysis. Together with the MALDI Biotyper and IR Biotyper, it forms an integrated workflow enabling laboratories to progress from identification through to epidemiological insight and genomic characterisation.

Bruker reported 140 new MALDI Biotyper and IR Biotyper system placements in the US during 2025, alongside double-digit consumables growth, with that momentum continuing into 2026.

“We believe the future of microbiology lies in integrated innovations that can deliver faster, clinically actionable answers for some of the most critical patient conditions, including sepsis,” said Carla Schneider, Bruker’s Director Commercial Operations, Microbiology & Infection Diagnostics – Americas. “At ASM Microbe 2026, we are showcasing how our expanding portfolio and innovation pipeline are helping laboratories move toward faster decision-making – including the next wave of solutions for rapid positive blood culture analysis.”
