Eppendorf launches new refrigerated Centrifuge 5811 R
Eppendorf, an international life science company that develops, manufactures and distributes instruments, consumables and services for laboratories worldwide, has launched the Centrifuge 5811 R, a refrigerated, multipurpose benchtop centrifuge intended for a broad range of laboratory workflows. The instrument succeeds the Centrifuge 5810 R and retains its predecessor’s core performance and versatility while introducing a new design and updated cooling technology.
Updated design and sustainable cooling
The Centrifuge 5811 R combines a new design and refreshed user interface with cooling technology based on R290 propane refrigerant, which has a global warming potential of 0.02 and an ozone depletion potential of 0. Additional features, including ECO shut-off, energy-efficient FastTemp technology and aerodynamic bucket designs, are intended to reduce power consumption during operation.

Capacity and applications
With a capacity of up to 3 L and speeds of up to 20,913 × g (14,000 rpm), the Centrifuge 5811 R accommodates a range of vessel types within a single benchtop footprint. The instrument’s portfolio includes 15 rotors and a broad selection of adapters, with swing-bucket and fixed-angle rotors, together with mixed bucket loading, enabling different formats to be combined within a single run.
Applications supported by the centrifuge include the harvesting and processing of cells, bacteria, yeast, algae and other microorganisms, together with nucleic acid and protein purification and peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) isolation
Refrigerated operation from -9 °C to +40 °C is designed to protect temperature-sensitive samples, while the control panel offers up to 35 user programs for repeatable setup. The instrument also features Eppendorf QuickLock® rotor lids and caps for rotor handling, together with a low access height and a Soft Touch Lid.
Compatibility with existing equipment
The Centrifuge 5811 R is compatible with 16 of the 17 existing Centrifuge 5810 R rotors, allowing laboratories to retain most of their existing rotor portfolio during the transition to the newer instrument. Several bundle configurations are available to suit different laboratory requirements.
