Selenium (Se) is an essential trace element in many biological processes. Se is measured in many sample matrices. The gold standard Se measurement method is inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Monitoring alternative isotopes, applying correction factors, and utilizing ICP with a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer are approaches to mitigate the interference of doubly-charged gadolinium.
As interest in vitamins A and E has increased in recent years, so too has the need for rapid and reliable methods by which these compounds can be assayed. The development of a supercritical fluid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (SFC-MS/MS)-based method with an automated extraction procedure provides faster analysis than other chromatographic-based methods and improved specificity.
