Inceptua Group acquires SupplyRx to expand pharmacy services for clinical trials

Inceptua Group, a provider of clinical trial supply, related services and early access programmes, has acquired SupplyRx, Inc., a US-based company offering cloud-based digital tools for clinical trial pharmacy programmes in the US and Canada. Inceptua is backed by Vesey Street Capital Partners, and financial terms were not disclosed.

Strengthening the pharmacy model

According to Inceptua, the transaction reinforces its existing Pharmacy Model capabilities in North America. The company intends to use SupplyRx’s technology, processes and pharmacy networks to improve the clinical supply chain, lower supply costs, increase efficiency and reduce waste.

SupplyRx’s portal is used by study sponsors and clinical trial sites, with the aim of ensuring and accelerating patient access to medicines. The added capability complements Inceptua’s nearly 30 years of global sourcing, packaging and labelling services. SupplyRx’s North American footprint also opens support for retail pharmacy programmes and pharmacy-driven clinical trial supply in both countries.

Real-time access and reduced wastage

Stefan Fraenkel, CEO of Inceptua Group, said: “I am delighted to welcome SupplyRx to Inceptua.” He noted that the acquisition “advances our strategy to enhance our pharmacy offering via a real-time portal with greater access to selected specialty pharmacies and limited distribution drugs, establishing new capabilities for local retail pharmacy card services for trials.”

Fraenkel added: “Together we will deliver better access, minimize wasted medicines, and help provide better outcomes for study patients.” He said the investment in digital tools and data-driven patient-support solutions reflects the company’s focus on adding technology selectively.

Continuity of expertise

SupplyRx’s leadership will join Inceptua, which the company said would ensure continuity of service and preservation of institutional expertise. Brian Horan, CEO and co-founder of SupplyRx, commented: “We are excited to join the Inceptua family and combine our experience and capabilities.” He said he was “extremely proud of what SupplyRx has built and the value our cloud-based, digital pharmacy card platform continues to deliver to sponsors, sites, and patients”.

Kevin McMurtry, president and co-founder of SupplyRx, noted: “Joining Inceptua represents an important next step in our evolution.” He said Inceptua’s capabilities and its understanding of the pharmacy card model provide “a strong foundation to expand our reach, strengthen customer support, and provide even greater support for manufacturers, clinicians, and patients.”

Inceptua’s services include comparator sourcing, storage, packaging, labelling and distribution for clinical trials, with international distribution of unlicensed medicines and expanded access programmes, including regulatory and compliance support. SupplyRx, founded in 2019 and headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina, develops cloud-based and software-as-a-service platforms for clinical trial and point-of-sale pharmacy programmes.
