Novogene Europe expands single-cell sequencing capability at Cambridge Omics Centre
Novogene Europe has expanded its single-cell RNA sequencing capability at its Cambridge Omics Centre, extending workflows built around the 10x Genomics Chromium platform to academic, biotech and biopharma researchers across the UK.
The move builds on the company’s established single-cell expertise, which includes existing capability in Germany, and brings together specialist project support, sequencing infrastructure and bioinformatics analysis at the Cambridge site. It follows the earlier launch of an untargeted metabolomics service at the same centre and forms part of a broader phase of capability expansion there.
Focus on 3′ gene expression
The Cambridge service will initially concentrate on 3′ gene expression using cells or nuclei, supported by GEM-X chemistry and high-throughput Illumina sequencing, alongside Novogene Europe’s bioinformatics resource. The offering spans the full workflow, from sample processing and quality control through to library preparation, sequencing and bioinformatics analysis.
Applications are expected across oncology, immunology, neuroscience, stem cell biology, developmental biology and translational research, as well as in biomarker and drug discovery. Profiling gene expression at single-cell or single-nucleus resolution allows researchers to examine cellular heterogeneity, identify rare populations and study how different cell types and states underpin biological function, in contrast to the averaged signal produced by bulk sequencing methods.
Beyond the new Cambridge offering, Novogene Europe’s single-cell portfolio also includes 5′ gene expression analysis and single-cell immune profiling incorporating T-cell and B-cell receptor sequencing.
Part of wider regional investment
The expansion is being announced during Novogene’s fifteenth anniversary year and is presented by the company as a further step in its development as a multiomics research services provider, following on from the earlier metabolomics launch at the same site.
Tingting Zhou, Vice President of Novogene Europe, said single-cell sequencing is helping researchers study complex biological systems with a level of detail that is difficult to achieve using bulk approaches alone. She noted that expanding access to single-cell sequencing workflows through the Cambridge Omics Centre would strengthen local support for UK researchers working across areas such as oncology, immunology, neuroscience, developmental biology and translational research, and added that the launch builds on established single-cell expertise and marks a further step in developing the Cambridge Omics Centre as a hub for advanced multiomics services.

The Cambridge Omics Centre is based at the TusPark Bio-Innovation Centre on Cambridge Science Park.
