Vitamin D analysis
, /in Product News /by 3wmediaImmundiagnostik AG offers a comprehensive test panel for the analysis of vitamin D in research and daily routine. ELISA, HPLC and LC-MS/MS tests enable the reliable determination of the analytes 1,25-(OH)2 vitamin D and 25(OH) vitamin D. The ImmunoTube® LC-MS/MS kit features a superior sample preparation that allows the precise analysis of 1,25-(OH)2 vitamin D3 and D2 in serum or plasma with high specificity and sensitivity and without ion suppression by interfering matrix components. This fast, robust and accurate detection method can be used on commercial high-end instruments. The 25(OH) vitamin D Xpress ELISA accomplishes a convenient and precise status determination in less than three hours. This automatable test quantitatively measures 25(OH) vitamin D in serum, even in small sample volumes. The protocol does not require overnight incubation or cooling, making the assay most suitable for vitamin D status analysis in daily clinical routine.

Fully automated fecal calprotectin test
, /in Product News /by 3wmediaEliA Calprotectin is the first fully automated test for fecal calprotectin helping to differentiate inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) from irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and other functional bowel disorders. After stool extraction the test can be processed fully automated on four Phadia® Laboratory Systems (Phadia 100, Phadia 250, Phadia 2500 and Phadia 5000), which meet the needs of laboratories of all sizes. This reduces the workload for the lab personnel, minimizes operational costs and optimizes the workflow. On top of this, EliA Calprotectin shows an excellent performance and provides results of high clinical usefulness. Because of its high sensitivity, the test can be used as a first-line test to rule out IBD, and can help to avoid unnecessary endoscopic procedures, while its high specificity assures a clear identification of IBD patients.

ELISA for active form of vitamin B12
, /in Product News /by 3wmediaCurrent front-line biochemical tests for assessment of Vitamin B12 status suffer from several important limitations including both false positives and false negatives, a wide indeterminate range and measurement of both active and inactive B12. Hematological test results can also be non-specific or misleading. The Active-B12 assay from Axis-Shield provides an innovative and highly accurate method for assessing Vitamin B12 status. The assay measures holotranscobalamin, the bio-active form of the vitamin. Holotranscobalamin represents only 10-30% of circulating B12 but is the only form taken up and utilized by the cells of the body – the Active-B12 assay therefore gives a more accurate assessment of the body’s B12 status. The CE-marked Active-B12 assay is a standard 96-well ELISA with break-apart strips and is supplied with all required reagents, calibrators and controls. The kit is compatible with liquid- handling automated instruments for higher throughput.

Body fluid analysis with hematology instrument
, /in Product News /by 3wmediaEquipped with the unique SF-Cube technology (laser scatter, fluorescence plus 3D cell analysis), the BC-6800 hematology analyser provides not only the routine parameters such as WBC 5-part diff, RET and NRBC, but also brings more information such as immature granulocyte, blast, atypical lymphocyte, infected RBC (infected by plasmodium parasite), etc. With a processing throughput of 125 tests per hour, it is also suitable for laboratories with large daily sample loads. The BC-6800 now comes with a new feature, body fluid analysis. The instrument can analyse CSF, pleural, peritoneal fluid samples, as well as provide reportable data for RBC, WBC, WBC differential (polymorphonuclear & mononuclear) and a total cell count (TCBF) on these body fluid samples. Moreover, for research use only, the instrument can give additional WBC differential results for neutrophil and eosinophil. HF-BF is an additional, for research use parameter, which represents high fluorescent cells. High fluorescent cells may contain histiocytes, epithelial cells, spleen cells, exfoliated cells, etc. These cells can bring more clinical information for diagnosis.

Fast and accurate colony counting
, /in Product News /by 3wmediaEven with the advances in automated and robotic colony counters, there still remains a need for accurate, simple to use and lower cost hand-held units. The efficient and accurate handheld Scienceware Colony Counter is ideal for those who only do counting on an irregular basis or only count a few plates at a time and do not wish the expense of investing space and capital in a larger system. Simple to operate, the unit marks, counts and gives an audible and visual alert each time a count is registered on the digital display. The lightweight, comfortable to hold, pen-style design reduces the likelihood of error, combining all aspects of counting into one motion. Error is further reduced by the ability to count both up and down to verify sample counts. Able to store up to 35 sample counts in its memory, it can also display the sum total of all colonies counted. The display has a backlight for easy viewing in low light conditions, the audible alert can be turned off if desired, and the counting function can be locked to prevent error during breaks between counting. Long-life, red and black felt-tip markers, a protective storage case and a 3V lithium battery are included. A complete counting system that includes the colony counter, a magnifier, light box, AC adapter, and counting grid is also available.

HIT diagnostic test
, /in Product News /by 3wmediaPatients with Heparin Induced Thrombocytopenia (HIT) have a very high thrombosis risk. They require alternative anticoagulant treatments which increase the bleeding risk. In the absence of a rapid and reliable laboratory assay, many clinicians simply replace heparin based on clinical suspicion only. However, only about 10% of HIT suspicions are actually confirmed by appropriate tests. Current immunoassays can rule out HIT but have limitations, especially a high number of false positive tests, long time to result, complex handling, and reagent wastage. The STic Expert® HIT kits match all laboratory requirements, including reliability (100% Negative Predictive Value), which rules out HIT when combined with the pretest clinical score, and 93% specificity, which reduces false positive results and the number of confirmatory tests required. Results are available in 10 minutes. Easy and ready to use, the unitary test is available 24/7 STAT compliant for laboratories of all sizes. It reduces the cost of HIT outsourcing and eliminates the need for extra equipment. Two packaging sizes are available, 5 tests per kit and 20 tests per kit, with individual tests in blister packs.
