Line of -30˚C freezers
, /in Product News /by 3wmediaA brand new line of -30˚C biomedical freezers provides cost-efficient and secure sample storage across a wide range of applications. A combination of technological advances reduces energy consumption and improves temperature stability, delivering the effective, reliable environmental control needed when storing valuable materials such as vaccines, diagnostic samples, enzymes, culture media and reagents. In conventional freezers, single speed compressors maintain the freezer temperatures by cycling on and off. Panasonic’s new biomedical freezers incorporate inverter compressors which can run at varying speeds to optimize cooling performance under different conditions and ensure highly reliable, efficient operation. This is the first time that such technology has ever been employed in -30˚C freezers. The use of inverter compressors significantly improves the temperature uniformity of the freezer and reduces energy consumption for decreased environmental impact and lower running costs. Natural hydrocarbon (HC) refrigerants also contribute to the low carbon footprint of these new freezers. The -30˚C biomedical freezers feature intuitive microprocessor control with an easy-to-read digital display, which delivers comprehensive set point, alarm, monitoring and diagnostic functions to track system conditions and alert users in the unlikely event of temperature abnormalities.

Enteric adenovirus test
, /in Product News /by 3wmediaAdenoviruses are non-enveloped viruses containing a double stranded DNA genome. They infect humans with 57 distinct adenovirus serotypes distributed in 6 groups from A to F and cause a wide range of illnesses, from mild respiratory infections to life-threatening multi-organ diseases in people with a weakened immune system. Most infections with adenovirus result in infections of the upper respiratory tract, conjunctivitis, ear infections or croup. But types 40 and 41 adenoviruses (group F) are mainly responsible for gastroenteritis. They infect mature enterocytes in the small intestine primarily in young children during the winter season. Some people with group F adenovirus gastroenteritis may shed the virus in their stools for months after getting rid of the symptoms. Prevalence of adenovirus 40/41 is known to be between 2 and 6 % and is the fourth cause of viral diarrhea. A specific diagnostic test like the GastroVir test developed by Coris BioConcept makes it possible to discriminate between respiratory and enteric adenovirus, since excretion could be concomitant.

sTNFr1 test kit
, /in Product News /by 3wmediaA new test kit for Soluble Tumour Necrosis Factor receptor 1 (sTNFr1) is available for sale. sTNFr1 identifies diabetic patients at high risk of End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) up to 10 years in advance. Based on a standard ELISA, the test detects circulating levels of sTNFr1 in just a few hours. Early diagnosis of ESRD leads to improved patient outcomes and reduced healthcare costs. The ELISA kit was developed in conjunction with the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, USA. 20 years after the onset of overt nephropathy, approximately 20% of diabetic patients will have progressed to ESRD. The sTNFr1 assay will lead to improvements in the way ESRD is detected and managed.

Multiplex PCR test
, /in Product News /by 3wmediaThe FilmArray is a FDA-cleared multiplex PCR test that integrates sample preparation, amplification, detection and analysis all into one automated system. It requires just two minutes of hands-on-time and its turnaround time is just about an hour, giving you faster results which may lead to better patient care.
The FilmArray now has two FDA-cleared panels – the Respiratory (RP) Panel and the Blood Culture Identification (BCID) Panel. Together, these two panels test for more than a hundred species of pathogens. Thus, FilmArray is not only the fastest way to better results; it’s the fastest way to more results.

Hemoglobin A1c reagent
, /in Product News /by 3wmediaNow introduced is a two-component immunoturbidimetric reagent for the determination of hemoglobin A1c on general chemistry analysers. The methodology uses a highly specific monoclonal antibody to hemoglobin A1c to generate increased turbidity in the presence of hemoglobin A1c. With the single R2 component stabilized, mixing two separate R2 components is no longer necessary. This single R2 component provides the consumer with unsurpassed ease of use. Automated hemolysis can be performed on many different chemistry analyzers, providing a totally automated test system. The simple competitive binding principle used in this hemoglobin A1c method provides direct determination of hemoglobin A1c. This eliminates the need to perform a total hemoglobin assay, providing greater accuracy and precision by removing the additive error from performing two assays to achieve a single result. The method can be applied to most general chemistry analysers. This eliminates the need for a dedicated hemoglobin A1c analyser, reducing capital expenditures and labour costs while increasing efficiency and productivity. These hemoglobin A1c reagents are liquid-stable and have been shown to be accurate and precise. Pointe Scientific’s hemoglobin A1c calibrators are referenced to IFCC materials and are also NGSP certified. Hemoglobin A1c controls are also available for use with the new hemoglobin A1c reagent.

Free 25OH Vitamin D Elisa
, /in Product News /by 3wmediaA new and unique research use only (RUO) assay launched in partnership with Future Diagnostics will help to normalize free vitamin D (FVD) levels despite the effects of variations in Vitamin D Binding proteins (VDBP) that occur in certain pathologies , e.g. pregnancy, liver disease, end stage renal disease and dialysis . Conventional total 25 OH Vitamin D assays by LC/MS-MS or immunoassay can give misleading results in these physiological conditions because these assays utilize a sample pre-treatment step that destroys the VDBP. The DIAsource Free 25 OH Vitamin D ELISA provides a more accurate assessment of the bioactive FVD in the patient sample. The levels of FVD measured in this assay are in the range of 1.1 pg/mL to 40 pg/mL with a 10 uL serum sample.

Enzymatic Sodium Test Kit
, /in Product News /by 3wmediaTeco Diagnostic’s Sodium Enzymatic Method (S650) test kit is a brand new formulation which uses enzymes instead of the traditional methodology of utilizing radioactive uranium acetate to perform a sodium test/reading. Uranium acetate is highly toxic, radioactive, and a potent carcinogen which exposes both the environment as well as the user to potential risks. The revised formulation is completely safe and extremely environmentally friendly. The kit is available both in the manual as well as automated format, making it readily available for us in any laboratory or clinical setting. The revised formulation has a faster procedure that cuts down on total test time by an entire 2 minutes. Due to the use of enzymes the kit becomes highly more effective with an increased accuracy and specificity.

Rapid test for Helicobacter pylori detection
, /in Product News /by 3wmediaNow available is an improved liquid method for H. pylori detection from biopsy samples, the Helicobacter pylori UFT300 quick test. The detection is based on the detection of bacterial urease activity in gastric biopsy specimens. A gastric mucosa colonized by H. pylori is invariably inflamed, and can lead to atrophic gastritis, which has been linked with peptic ulcer and gastric cancer, two of the most important diseases of the upper gastrointestinal tract. The quick test is easy to store and perform and results are ready in a few minutes, enabling diagnosis and reporting at the point of gastroscopy.
