Revvity develops high-throughput T-SPOT.TB automated platform for clinical labs
Revvity, Inc. has announced the development of the T-SPOT™ A201, a next-generation automated platform intended to support high-volume latent tuberculosis testing using the T-SPOT.TB® assay in large-scale clinical laboratories.
Meeting demand for scaled TB testing
Tuberculosis testing volumes continue to be driven by immigration screening, pre-treatment evaluation ahead of immunosuppressive therapies, and wider public health programmes. Laboratories handling these workloads must return accurate results from initial testing while processing high sample numbers to support timely treatment decisions and patient outcomes.
Built on the platform architecture of the Auto-Pure 2400 liquid handler, the T-SPOT A201 has been engineered to meet the throughput requirements of large-scale testing environments. According to Revvity, the system extends the company’s automation portfolio and its capacity to serve laboratories across a range of throughput needs.
Throughput and hands-on time
The platform is designed to process up to 384 samples per instrument within an 8-hour shift, with 45 seconds of hands-on time per sample – described by the company as the lowest hands-on time of any T-SPOT automation solution currently available.
Steven Hart, vice president and general manager of infectious disease diagnostics at Revvity, commented: “The T-SPOT A201 automation platform represents a significant step forward in making the benefits of T-SPOT.TB testing accessible
at scale.” He added: “Our development program is focused on delivering a solution that gives high-volume clinical labs the performance, workflow efficiency, and competitive economics they need.”
Development timeline and regulatory status
Revvity noted that additional studies on the performance of its automation solutions will be released in the coming months. The T-SPOT A201 platform remains under development and is targeted for launch in the second half of 2027, subject to regulatory approval.
Revvity reported 2025 revenue of $2.9 billion and employs approximately 11,000 people, serving customers in the pharmaceutical and biotech, diagnostic laboratory, academic and government sectors in more than 160 countries. The company is listed on the S&P 500 index.
