Resonant Clinical Solutions and Haier Biomedical launch R290-cooled benchtop centrifuge for clinical trials

Resonant Clinical Solutions and Haier Biomedical have launched the LX-60T100R, a hydrocarbon-cooled refrigerated benchtop centrifuge designed specifically for clinical trials use. The instrument is aimed at pharmaceutical companies that sponsor clinical trials, and contract research organisations (CROs). The companies say it helps them to prepare for upcoming regulation changes and meet corporate environmental sustainability commitments.

Partnership and F-gas regulation

The reengineered centrifuge is the result of an ongoing partnership combining Haier Biomedical’s engineering expertise with Resonant’s clinical trials knowledge. The companies say it complies with upcoming legislation further restricting the use of fluorinated greenhouse gases (F-gases), historically used as refrigerants in laboratory instruments, because of their significant global warming potential (GWP). It is available more than two years ahead of critical industry deadlines in Europe and the US.

Key features

  • Natural hydrocarbon (R290) refrigerant, reducing refrigerant GWP from more than 1,400 in legacy F-gas systems to approximately 3 without compromising cooling performance
  • Pre-cooling from room temperature to 4 °C in approximately five minutes, shortening the wait associated with legacy refrigerated centrifuges
  • •Speed and rotor profile matched to routine clinical trial workflows, including blood collection tubes, 15 and 50 mL conical flasks, and bottles up to 100 mL
  • 7-inch LCD touchscreen, responsive with gloves, with on-screen calibration and configuration, RFID rotor recognition, user log-in controls and storage for over 1,000 programs
  • Safety and reliability monitoring, including vibration and imbalance detection, level check and rotor-life tracking and warning, plus an ultra-low centre of gravity that limits vibration
  • Operation as quiet as 52 dB(A) in fixed-angle rotor configurations
  • Weight of about 46 kg, fitting on a standard laboratory bench without special floor mounting or reinforced surfaces

Christophe Berthoux, Chief Executive Officer at Resonant Clinical Solutions, said: “We are laser-focused on providing world-class, customer-centric solutions that support the full lifecycle of complex clinical trial programs. Our collaboration with Haier Biomedical on this reimagined natural-refrigerant centrifuge has been pivotal in delivering innovative, globally supported technology that meets F-gas regulatory requirements and market demand, years ahead of mandated deadlines. Clinical trial centrifugation workflows will be easier, more flexible, and more environmentally sustainable with this industry-leading instrument.”

Haier Biomedical’s Co-Chief Executive Officer, Gang Liu, added: “Our ability to turn a concept into an innovative product in such a short period really shows our commitment to supporting our customers. Fresh challenges will continue to emerge across the biomedical sector, and we remain dedicated to working alongside scientists to develop novel solutions that help the industry move forward at pace. In this instance, the partner-ship with Resonant resulted in a modern, easy-to-use, and regulatory-compliant centrifuge that significantly enhances workflows while reducing the use of harmful greenhouse gases.”

Availability

Clinical trial sponsors and CROs can purchase or rent the LX-60T100R exclusively from Resonant through November 2027. The 220-240 V AC, 50/60 Hz model is immediately available for purchase or rental, with the 110 V AC, 50/60 Hz model launching in Q1 2027.
