Charles River and Autolomous launch Apollo Orchestrate to digitise GMP laboratory execution
Charles River Laboratories International, Inc. and Autolomous announced the launch of Apollo Orchestrate™, a new capability within Charles River’s Apollo® platform that connects and digitises laboratory execution. It is built on Autolomous’ autoloMATE® digital Laboratory Execution System (LES). The launch forms part of Charles River’s commitment to modernisation and digitisation, and its broader transition toward digital, connected, compliant and scalable laboratory execution.
Deployment across Biologics Testing Solutions sites
The deployment brings Apollo Orchestrate’s electronic execution record and workflow-automation capabilities, powered by autoloMATE, to Charles River Biologics Testing Solutions sites across North America and Europe. It supports quality control (QC) testing within the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) setting. Apollo Orchestrate connects Charles River’s laboratory systems, including Apollo and LabWare LIMS, supporting digital traceability from sample submission through execution to release.
Initial deployment within the GMP setting for QC testing will establish a standardised, scalable operating model for expansion across Biologics Testing Solutions sites following the initial go-live.
One digital workflow from submission to review
Enabled by autoloMATE’s LES, Apollo Orchestrate connects sample submission, laboratory execution and review into one digital workflow and shifts records from paper to digital, with a path to greater client visibility over time. According to the companies, it enhances efficiency by minimising manual processes, improving data accuracy and accelerating execution and review. This allows technical and quality assurance (QA) teams to spend less time on administrative review and more on scientific, quality and client-focused work.
Charles River describes the launch as a step in developing an integrated digital laboratory ecosystem, enabling a more seamless workflow focused on getting results to the client rapidly and accurately.
“Aligned with our modernization strategy, it is crucial that we evolve quickly to enhance efficiencies and ensure medicines reach patients swiftly and safely,” said Kerstin Dolph, Corporate Senior Vice President of Global Manufacturing, Charles River. “The launch of Apollo Orchestrate, built on Autolomous’ autoloMATE platform, will increase efficiency while providing greater transparency and collaboration for our clients, both of which are key to our strategic goals.” Alexander Seyf, CEO of Autolomous, commented on the problem the platform is designed to address: “Biological testing proves that a medicine is safe, effective, and ready for patients, but data collection and management across fragmented, often manual and paper-based systems from R&D to commercial release create unnecessary delays for patients, opportunities for errors, audit risks, and lost revenue. We designed autoloMATE to enable life sciences companies to connect that data directly into an integrated, digitized workflow and increase speed, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness.”
Platform and service background
Autolomous describes autoloMATE as a cloud-native, AI-enabling, modular platform that integrates with existing systems, with each deployment configured to customer needs. Charles River’s Biologics Testing Solutions draws on decades of cell banking and cell line characterisation expertise, and its CGMP-compliant cell bank production and storage services cite 8-10 weeks from cell bank completion to release, with more than 2,000 cell and viral banks produced for client programmes from research and development through commercial manufacturing.
