Complementary qPCR diagnostic tests for sexually transmitted infection
, /in Product News /by 3wmediaA CE-marked multiplex real-time PCR reagent targeting Mycoplasma genitalium and Trichomonas vaginalis is adapted to the most used qPCR automated systems usually dedicated to C. trachomatis and N. gonorrhoeae. This new kit can dramatically improve the diagnosis process for patients with sexually transmitted infection. The mg219 gene was found to be in all strains of M. genitalium and was highly conserved; it is coupled to the mgPa gene and T. vaginalis. A quick and accurate detection of pathogens causing various STIs can solve a lot of problems with regard to partner contamination and supports adapted antibiotherapy regimens. Molecular diagnostics enables an easier and more reliable diagnosis than traditional methods. Mycoplasma genitalium has been convincingly linked to non-gonococcal urethritis (NGU) and nonchlamydial-non-gonococcal urethritis (NCNGU); association of M. genitalium infection and pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) aft er termination of pregnancy is an independent and strong risk factor for both cervicitis and PID. Therefore, M. genitalium infection in women is associated with clinical manifestations and complications that in some instances are amenable to prevention and treatment.

HbA1c latex immunoassay
, /in Product News /by 3wmediaMeasurement of glycated haemoglobin, HbA1c, is the method of choice for the assessment of glycaemic control in diabetic patients. Highly accurate and precise, the new HbA1c latex immunoassay from Axis-Shield also offers a number of convenient features making it suitable for use on any clinical chemistry analyser. The two liquid-stable reagents are supplied in instrument-specific packaging for direct loading onto many platforms, thereby reducing operator handling time by removing the requirement for decanting or pre-analytical mixing of reagents and releasing on-board instrument space by utilising only one reagent channel. The simple assay protocol means that the assay can be easily adapted to suit any clinical chemistry analyser and applications are available from Axis-Shield for many widely-used systems. The use of a specific anti-HbA1c antibody removes the need for a separate Haemoglobin measurement. A 5-level calibrator pack and 2-level control pack are also available.

The only way to ensure accuracy at the Point-of-Care
, /in Product News /by 3wmediaAlthough many POCT devices offer ‘built in’ QC, a truly independent, unbiased assessment of system performance is only possible through the use of third party controls, something that is reflected by ISO 15189 guidelines.
As a leading provider of complete quality control solutions, Randox manufacture a range of highly convenient quality controls ideally suited to POCT due to their liquid stable, ready-to-use format and easy storage. Combining multiple parameters at clinically significant levels in a single control material not only enables test menu consolidation but can help to reduce time and costs. Principle control products include the Acusera Liquid Cardiac Control covering 8 commonly tested cardiac markers, the Acusera Blood Gas Control containing 10 parameters in total and the Acusera Urinalysis Control comprising a total of 13 parameters.

Digital water baths
, /in Product News /by 3wmediaA new line of economical general purpose water baths that combine exceptional temperature control with full-featured digital functionality and ease of operation is now available. Designed to accommodate a wide variety of clinical and laboratory applications, these versatile water baths maintain bath temperatures from ambient +5° to 99.9°C with ±0.1° stability and ±0.2°C uniformity. They are available with 2, 5, 10, 20, or 28 litre single chamber reservoirs. In addition to precise temperature control, PolyScience water baths feature a digital temperature readout that displays both the actual bath temperature and set point temperature simultaneously, three user-defined temperature preset buttons for the quick selection of frequently used temperature set points, and an integrated timer. Bath temperature can be displayed in either °C or °F. For added operational convenience, all models include a steeply gabled tilting cover that accommodates glassware of varying heights and permits easy loading and removal of samples while allowing condensate to drain neatly back into the bath. Baths with a 10 litre or large reservoir are also equipped with a reservoir drain. All models come equipped with a diffuser tray and test tube holding rack or racks.
