, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

MAST ASSURE Bacterial Agglutinating Antisera products are a comprehensive range of polyvalent and monovalent diagnostic antisera for bacterial identification. Bacterial serotype is easily determined according to the expression of flagella (H) and somatic (O) antigens.  Mast Antisera products are used globally for antigenic analysis of clinically significant bacteria, including MAST ASSURE Salmonella Antisera for identification of the species within the genus Salmonella using the Kauffmann-White Scheme for classification. The MAST ASSURE product range features simple slide and test tube agglutination methods and easy to read results. All antisera are derived from immunized rabbits, adsorbed to remove cross agglutinins and filter sterilized. Presented in 2ml dropper bottles, the reagents are user friendly and ensure minimal laboratory wastage. An extensive range of antisera is available from stock with a large range of sera manufactured to special order.

Celiac disease rapid tests

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Celiac disease is a permanent intolerance to ingested gluten – a protein of wheat, rye and barley – that results in damage of the small-intestine mucosal surface. This causes malabsorption of critical nutrients and can cause a variety of health problems from gastrointestinal symptoms, anemia and lactose intolerance to dental anomalies and skin problems. The vast majority of patients with celiac disease go undiagnosed; the incidence is estimated to be as high as 1/100 in Europe. Because of the genetic factor involved, there is 1/10 risk of celiac disease if a close relative has the condition. A selection of Biocard celiac disease rapid tests is now available for home and professional use. The tests are based on a patented method of detecting the tissue transglutaminase IgA antibodies associated with celiac disease from fingertip blood samples. The easy and reliable method gives results in less than 10 minutes with high sensitivity and specificity. All accessories for sampling are included. Total IgA detection is included to detect the IgA-defi cient patients.

Rapid diagnostic test for influenza A and B virus

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

The Alere i Influenza A & B test is the first and only molecular test to detect and differentiate influenza A and B virus in less than 15 minutes. The test is now commercially available in Austria, France, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Italy and the UK.  Molecular testing involves the extraction and analysis of DNA or RNA strands to detect sequences associated with viral and bacterial causes of infections.  Alere i Influenza A & B is the first molecular diagnostic test that delivers actionable, lab-accurate results in less than 15 minutes on a user-friendly platform.  The proprietary technology utilizes isothermal nucleic acid amplification technology (iNAT), which, unlike polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing, does not require temperature cycling and can therefore deliver results more quickly and to a broader range of settings, including point of care as well as laboratory.  Each year, a combination of influenza A and B virus strains circulate within Europe. Up to 40,000 people die each year from influenza in the EU, according to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC). The disease also poses a significant economic burden including medical care expenses and loss of productivity. Rapid diagnostics with increased sensitivity are essential for the reliable detection of influenza A and B, enabling healthcare professionals to make immediate, effective treatment decisions and prevent unnecessary prescribing of antibiotics and antiviral medications. Rapid diagnosis of influenza can help reduce length of hospital stays, secondary complications and the cost of hospital care, and allow effective implementation of infection control measures.

Digital system for karyotyping

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Vision Karyo is a professional microscopy digital system for the generation of superior quality metaphase plate images. Accuracy and objectivity due to documentation and specialized software provide greater assurance in examination results. Working with the Vision Karyo system does not lead to fatigue and red eyes, as well as reduces the load on neck and hand muscles that accompanies routine microscopy. The working time of experienced professionals is used more effectively and doctors and laboratory employees improve their expertise every day, thanks to the use of atlas, review of images and comments as well as discussion with colleagues and experts. Information exchange makes up for a lack of specialists, and professional collaboration “real-time” reduces time and effort. Accurate diagnosis, tactics and strategy for further examination will ensure correct treatment of the patient.

Automated HIV-1 assay

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

The Aptima HIV-1 Quant Dx assay has now been introduced on the Panther system, allowing complete sample-to-result automation in the only in vitro nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT) for both the detection and quantitation of HIV-1 RNA. The Aptima HIV-1 Quant Dx assay is intended for use as an aid in both the diagnosis and confirmation of HIV-1 infection as well as in the clinical management of patients infected with HIV-1. This highly sensitive assay can detect HIV-1 RNA as low as 13 copies/mL using a 0.5 mL sample.  The Aptima HIV-1 Quant Dx assay offers the advantage of having a limit of detection (LOD) that is not equal to the lower limit of quantitation (LLOQ) when utilized for diagnosis, to enable the assay to detect HIV-1 viral load below quantifiable levels. The assay’s broad dynamic range allows quantification of HIV-1 RNA, from 30 copies/mL to 10 million copies/mL. High precision in quantitation is ensured, with a narrow coefficient of variation across the linear range—including in low-viremia samples. The Aptima HIV-1 Quant Dx assay provides 3 levels of protection for confidence in assay performance despite drug selection pressures and growing genetic diversity.  This is achieved by the use of a dual-target approach for built-in redundancy, with both targets chosen within highly conserved genomic regions (LTR and pol) of HIV-1 together with a sophisticated primer design – including length – to tolerate mutations; as well as redundant oligonucleotides for additional protection against mutations. The random access Panther system eliminates batching restrictions and allows the user to run HIV-1 side by side with 3 other sexually transmitted disease/sexually transmitted infection (STD/STI) testing assays: CT/NG, HPV and Trichomonas. Primary tubes can be loaded and processed directly with no aliquot or manual transfer to a second tube required.
