HbA1c enzymatic assay

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

The HbA1c value correlates with the average blood glucose level over the last 8-12 weeks and is used for monitoring and diagnosis of diabetes. DiaSys offers HbA1c net FS as a liquid-stable and ready-to-use 2-component assay. Due to the enzymatic test principle, excellent precision is ensured. Interference from a variety of hemoglobin variants like HbS, HbC, HbD, HbE, or HbF can be excluded. HbA1c net FS is characterized by a wide measuring range from 20 to 150 mmol/mol IFCC (4-6% DCCT/NGSP) and high on-board and calibration stability of up to 6 weeks. Moreover, this assay is standardized against the IFCC reference method and traceable according to the DCCT/NGSP network.

Digital pathology system

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Sectra’s solution for storing, viewing and sharing digital pathology images has received the CE mark for primary diagnostic use. The system enables more efficient cancer care by enhancing collaboration and sharing of images between pathologists and radiologists. Pathologists will now be able to review cases digitally on a computer screen, enabling them to eliminate the microscope. The digital format brings new tools to the pathologists’ fingertips and also allows samples to be sent easily to other pathologists to share the workload or for specialist consultations, thereby facilitating quicker and more accurate diagnosis. Pathology and radiology are at the centre of cancer diagnosis and their collective findings are the basis for patient treatment and its outcome. Both disciplines are highly dependent on adequate clinical information in order to provide accurate and useful reports for the clinician, surgeon, oncologist or patient. Despite their joint responsibility for cancer diagnosis, the exchange of information between the two groups is often very limited as the radiology and pathology workflows are usually completely different. Sectra’s system for digital pathology is built on the same platform as its radiology PACS for managing radiology images. The common technical platform enables closer collaboration between the two specialties, sometimes referred to as integrated diagnostics, facilitating, for example, more efficient multi-disciplinary team meetings. Focusing on end-user experience and workflow efficiency, the system provides a platform where images from different hardware vendors can be viewed and archived, and where histology or cytology images can be shown together with macro images. Furthermore, it allows full case overview including integration with other image systems, enabling access to radiology or dermatology data and images in the same workstation. Sectra digital pathology workstation, IDS7/px, consists of a dedicated image window for pathology images and the regular IDS7 information window. The information window includes worklists, full patient information, with possibility to access images from other specialties such as mammography, radiology and dermatology and a reporting window with support for speech recognition. The possibility to reach different types of images, such as pathology and radiology from the same workstation is especially useful for multidisciplinary teams (MDT) meetings. The image window supports the pathologist during review, preparation of MDTs and education and it contains for example tools for text annotations, distance and area measurements. Images from the same block are registered as such and if similar enough are automatically synchronized by the software enabling efficient comparison of the same structure stained with different techniques.

New assay range including automated TSI

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

A range of new assays has been released by Siemens for use on the ADVIA Centaur and IMMULITE XPi 2000 systems. The range includes anti-CCP used as an aid in the evaluation of Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and the first automated quantitative thyroid stimulating immunoglobulin (TSI) assay used in the diagnosis of Graves’ disease. The ADVIA Centaur anti-CCP assay is for use in the semi-quantitative determination of the IgG class of autoantibodies specific to cyclic citrullinated peptide (CCP) in human serum and plasma, aiding with the diagnosis of RA. The assay provides 96% specificity for an early accurate diagnosis of RA, ensuring improved patient care by allowing timely intervention and treatment. The Siemens IMMULITE 2000 XPi thyroid stimulating immunoglobulin (TSI) assay specifically detects thyroid stimulating antibodies, which are the hallmark of Graves’ disease, unlike the commonly used TRAb assay which detects both stimulating and blocking antibodies. This makes the assay highly specific, to aid in the disease’s diagnosis. With a clinical sensitivity and specificity of 98.3% and 99.7% respectively, it ensures laboratories can provide a fast, easy and specific diagnosis. The addition of the new assays to the existing extensive range will help laboratory staff integrate testing into routine workflow, reducing the need for send-away testing. This enables laboratories to reduce operational costs and time, as well as becoming more productive and efficient.

Biomarker test for early sepsis identification

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

The Stanbio Chemistry Procalcitonin (PCT) LiquiColor Assay enables the quantitative determination of PCT in serum samples, EDTA or lithium heparin plasma samples by latex enhanced immunoturbidimetric methodology. Procalcitonin is a marker for bacterial infection and sepsis and has been recognized as an important adjunct marker in the diagnosis of sepsis. Fast, accurate and convenient, the test provides a precise result, which correlates well with established methodology, within 10 minutes and requires just 20 µL of sample. The reagents may be used on almost any liquid-based chemistry analyser with open-channel capability. In addition, the reagent kit, calibrator and control sets are all available separately. The assay can be performed on a customer’s existing chemistry analyser with the same collection tube used for analysis of other chemistry tests.  Therefore, it will provide optimized lab workflow by eliminating the need to split a sample or have a dedicated off-line workstation. These features will provide any lab with a cost-effective solution for PCT testing.

‘Sign & seal’ durable laboratory labels

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Laboratory labelling experts CILS have developed high performance ‘sign & seal’ durable laboratory labels for situations where the users do not have the facility to print labels using a thermal transfer or laser printer. The new CILS ‘sign & seal’ labels allows the user to handwrite information and then protect the label with the attached, easy-toapply, ‘wipe clean’ over-laminate layer. The durable labels shown protect handwritten data against solvents (xylene, DMSO, etc.), extreme temperatures (-80ºC to +155 ºC), alcohol wipes, autoclave cycles, repeated handling, humidity and moisture, etc. CILS durable labels are manufactured to any size, shape, format and design for all laboratory applications and are easily transportable – ideal for ‘off-site’ clinical trials.
