This ultra-low temperature freezer is designed to offer laboratories a greener solution: less power consumption, less noise and higher efficiency without compromising the integrity of samples. The Thermo Scientific TSX ultra-low temperature freezer features natural refrigerants for lower environmental impact and higher cooling efficiency. Due to its intuitive design, the TSX freezer uses up to 50 percent less energy than conventional refrigerant ultra-low freezers and delivers temperature uniformity that continuously adapts to a laboratory’s environment. Conventional ultra-low temperature freezers use single-speed compressors that continually cycle on and off , resulting in poor temperature recovery following door openings. The TSX ultra-low temperature freezer is equipped with the unique V-Drive technology. When conditions are stable, the V-Drive is designed to operate at a low speed to reduce energy consumption while maintaining a uniform temperature. When dealing with frequent door openings or when samples are added to the freezer, the control system detects the activity and increases the drive speed to bring temperatures quickly back to the set point. The V-Drive also helps limit sound output to 46 db(A), making the TSX freezer up to 20 times quieter, comparable to a conventional refrigerator. For busy labs, the constant, disruptive noise created by compressors can compromise communications and create a less–than-ideal working environment. The freezer also utilizes water-blown foam insulation, which eliminates the off -gassing typical of urethane-insulated freezers. Additional product features include a 600-box sample capacity to maximize storage within a 1.06m2 footprint, intuitive touch screen interface for access to vital freezer information, and on-board computer and USB port for data storage and exchange. The Hemo Control point-of-care (POC) diagnostics analyser provides laboratory accurate hemoglobin and hematocrit results in one simple test. The new hemoglobin POC analyser enables full upgrade with data management functionality as required, giving the user complete flexibility over their future connectivity options via its bi-directional interface. Using the new LIS2-A2 communication standard, this bidirectional interface allows the analyser to connect directly to third party software and enable simple integration with LIS (Laboratory Information System) middleware. LIS2-A2 succeeds the ASTM communication standard commonly used for small to mid-size analysers and is easier to integrate than POCT-1A. Available as a cost effective basic device which stores up to 4000 patient results, the new Hemo Control offers enhanced on-board Data Management (DM) functions following upgrade with the DM ‘add pack’ if required at a later date. In addition to enabling lists to be sent directly from the LIS to Hemo Control, the DM upgrade also offers barcode identification of patients, operators, cuvette LOT and control materials, as well as quality control with lock-out functions and the ability to add comments to results. As a highly robust, portable analyser, Hemo Control is designed to provide quantitative, lab quality results for both hemoglobin and hematocrit (imprecision of <2%) from 25 seconds for blood banks, hospitals and clinics. Furthermore, this compact analyser uses NXT shape microcuvette technology, which enables improved finger stick sample collection by virtually eliminating appearance of air bubbles.

Siemens Healthineers has recently launched the CE-marked Atellica COAG 360 System, a fully automated high-volume coagulation analyser designed to streamline and unify hemostasis testing. The Atellica COAG 360 System is the first analyser to unify five methodologies on one testing platform – clotting (optical and optomechanical), chromogenic, immunologic, high-sensitivity luminescence based immunoassay (LOCI) technology, and platelet aggregation testing. This unification enables laboratories to potentially replace up to three stand-alone systems with just one analyser, saving space, simplifying inventory management, reducing maintenance – reducing the overall cost of ownership. The system also provides intelligent reagent and consumable management – including true continuous loading and unloading, and realtime monitoring – extending walkaway time, providing uninterrupted sample measurement, and enabling faster availability of test results. PSI checks and advanced preanalytics detect underfilled or overfilled samples and accurately identify assay-specific hemolytic, icteric, and lipemic (HIL) interferences using nine pre-defined levels. The dedicated, automated module for the detection of HIL interferences improves consistency and reproducibility of results compared to a visual check of samples. Recently launched is a high-performance real-time PCR assay: Meningitis Viral 2 ELITe MGB Panel for viral meningitis diagnosis, validated with ELITe InGenius, ELITechGroup’s fully automated sample to result system. Viruses are the most common causative agent of meningitis. Although presenting similar onset, viral and bacterial meningitis are associated with entirely different outcomes. Rapid and accurate diagnosis by molecular method is important to identify the viral agent, rule out a bacterial infection, and adapt patient management. Meningitis Viral ELITe MGB Panel 2 is a multiplex assay validated with cerebrospinal fluid samples, which combines reverse transcription and real-time PCR amplification for the detection and the differentiation of Enterovirus, Parechovirus and Adenovirus in one single reaction. The clinical studies have demonstrated excellent performance: 100% diagnostic sensitivity and 100% specificity for all targets. The validation with the ELITe InGenius system offers several advantages to laboratories: results in only 2h30 with limited hands-on time, emergency testing performed in parallel of any routine samples within the same run, and storage of extracted nucleic acid for an optimal use of precious CSF samples for retesting, additional molecular testing, or archiving. The ELITe InGenius menu for molecular diagnosis of meningitis will be further broadened in the coming months, with an additional real-time PCR multiplex assay for the detection of the main causative agents of bacterial meningitis.
DiaSys offers an improved, liquid-stable and ready-to-use reagent for common clinical chemistry analysers. For the determination of ß-hydroxybutyrate (ß-HBUT) serum and plasma samples can be used. ß-HBUT is an important marker to detect diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), a potentially life-threatening complication in diabetes mellitus, which can lead to coma or even death. The new ß-Hydroxybutyrate 21 FS offers a wide measuring range which ensures few sample repeats and therefore is time- and cost-saving. Interferences to endogenous and exogenous substances were minimized and calibration and on-board stability were prolonged to 12 weeks. The new ß-Hydroxybutyrate 21 FS is robust and provides accurate and highly reproducible results.
Anti-CCP is the marker of choice among rheumatologists for aid in the serological diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). For over 15 years Axis-Shield has been a major pioneer developing this marker on a number of different technologies and is now making available the first anti-CCP test designed for use on open clinical chemistry systems. With excellent clinical specificity and sensitivity for patients with RA, results can be received in 10 minutes. This latex-enhanced immunoturbidimetric test is suitable for use with either serum or plasma. This methodology will allow laboratories to consolidate their testing along with other acute phase reactants and serological markers associated with rheumatic diseases. Each reagent pack supplied has 100 tests. Controls and calibrators are available separately.
