Rapid test for animal Trypanosomiasis

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Surra is a trypanosomiasis caused by Trypanosoma evansi. It is the most widely geographically distributed hemoprotozoan parasite. T. evansi affects domestic animals such as camels, horses, cattles, buffaloes, small ruminants and dogs. It is mechanically transmitted by hemophagus flies, such as tabanus or Stomoxys. Wild animals can act as reservoir hosts. Surra causes severe anemia, edema, various nerological disorders resulting into death of infected animals, and immunodeficiencies leading to increased susceptibility to other diseases or vaccination failure. A serological test provides the most sensitive way to detect the infection, especially in chronic cases, with healthy carriers or when the parasitemia is low. The Surra Sero K-SeT is the first rapid diagnostic test for the detection of antibodies specific to Trypanosoma evansi in animal whole blood or serum. Fast and accurate, it is suitable for laboratories as well as field testing and requires minimal sample handling.

Smartphone-based lateral flow reader

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

SkanSmart promises to accelerate uptake of POC in the field testing, as well as hospital, clinic and doctors office settings, since its proprietary soft ware platform enables rapid handheld reading of existing commercially available flow assay formats. Utilizing Skannex patented image analysis and barcode software technology, users read simple yes/no, semi or fully quantitative results. Results can be printed wirelessly, emailed or downloaded to HIS systems. Infectious Disease, STD and Drugs of Abuse testing are immediate potential beneficiaries. Skannex has already introduced a series of well-received desktop readers over the last 3 years, including SkanMulti and SkanFlexi. The company aims to market the device to lateral flow manufacturing companies, providing a portable device for their proprietary assays.

Scalable hematology systems

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Three scalable hematology systems, the ADVIA 360 System, ADVIA 560 System, and ADVIA 560 AL System, offer state-of-the-art hematology testing capabilities for small to mid-sized laboratories and may also be used as back-up systems for larger laboratories. Engineered for safety and ease-of-operation, the ADVIA hematology systems help optimize and manage workflow through several convenient features, such as the choice of open- or closed-tube sampling and customizable result printing. Automatic anti-clogging and cleaning procedures are employed to ensure results reliability. Along with automated maintenance, this reduces manual procedures and bio-hazard exposure. The systems offer fast, high quality CBC testing, running up to 60 samples per hour. Other system features include: the option for manual or automatic calibration procedures, a cap-piercing function for accurate and safer sampling, a multilingual operating menu and bidirectional LIS communication for easy patient data transfer between laboratories and minimized paper-based work lists. These lower capacity systems address major differences in hematology testing volumes from laboratory to laboratory and network to network. With a compact footprint, the ADVIA 360 System allows smaller laboratories to efficiently generate reliable and accurate results while conserving precious benchtop space. This system provides a three-part white cell differential and storage capacity for 10,000 results. An integrated ticket printer streamlines results reporting. The ADVIA 560 System can serve as the primary hematology analyzer in small to mid-sized laboratories and as a backup for the company’s ADVIA 2120i System in larger laboratories. It provides a five-part white cell differential and storage capacity of 100,000 results. Also, two scattergrams and two histograms per result help aid interpreting disease-state information. The ADVIA 560 AL System offers automatic sampling with an optional autoloader that simply plugs into the side of the system for even greater workflow efficiency and true “walk-away” capability.

Human MxA Protein ELISA

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Designed for the measurement of MxA protein in human whole blood, an innovative ELISA based on the use of patented monoclonal antibodies and a special buffer to extract the cytoplasmic MxA protein is suitable for the monitoring of IFN-β therapy in multiple sclerosis patients and for viral infection recognition. Human Myxovirus protein A is induced exclusively by IFN-α and IFN-β. Since direct measurement of the IFN levels in plasma is difficult, MxA may be useful as a marker distinguishing viral disease from bacterial infection or from acute graft-versus-host disease after allogenic stem cell transplantation. Neutralizing antibodies may develop during the IFN-β therapy of multiple sclerosis and lead to loss of drug bioactivity. The IFN-β-inducible MxA protein is an ideal marker of IFN-β bioavailability, capable of discriminating between biologically responsive and non-responsive patients. The BioVendor assay meets all the requirements for routine clinical use in manual mode as well as on open ELISA robotic systems.

Mass spectrometry analyser for hospitals and diagnostic laboratories

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

The new AB SCIEX IVD-MS analyser provides a combination of the high sensitivity and selectivity of mass spectrometry (MS) technology and the molecular separation power of liquid chromatography (LC) with a technicianfriendly, intuitive interface. The new SCIEX ClearCore MD Software provides streamlined data processing, reporting and review functionality. This will help make the adoption of LC/MS/MS for routine analysis significantly easier. The ClearCore software enables quantitation and data exploration without the need for additional software packages. It provides simple method development tools with separate LC and MS method editors. It also provides customizable access to modules based on user security levels, including routine users, method developers, data reviewers and administrators, so personnel is only able to access approved modules. This software drives the workflow that utilizes the power of the analyzer. The new IVD-MS analyser joins the company’s growing line of in vitro diagnostic devices for certain European countries, including the AB SCIEX 3200MD CE-IVD series of MS systems. The intended use of this CE marked, regulatory-compliant device is to identify inorganic or organic compounds in human specimens for clinical use, providing routine diagnostic testing laboratories in certain countries in Europe with the ability to quantitate multiple trace level compounds in a single analysis with high confidence in the results.

Randox Direct Clearance LDL Cholesterol- clearing the way for accurate testing

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

The Randox LDL cholesterol assay utilises the clearance method for the accurate diagnosis of patient samples. The advanced reagent formula enables rapid clearance of all non-LDL lipoproteins from a sample, enabling the diagnosis of LDL cholesterol only. Furthermore, patient samples where diabetes, liver disease or high triglyceride levels are a concern can be accurately measured using the Randox LDL cholesterol assay.

The Friedewald calculation is often used in LDL measurement however the accuracy of this method is inadequate due to its dependency on “normal” triglyceride levels. At high levels of triglycerides a large number of samples are misclassified using the Friedewald calculation leading to significant discrepancies between calculated LDL cholesterol and the true value. The Randox LDL clearance method eliminates this problem and ensures truly accurate results are produced.

Platelet-derived supplement for cell culture

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Entirely of human origin for in vitro cell culture applications, Lysex enables selection, expansion and differentiation of human primary cell cultures, such as adult and fetal mesenchymal stem cells (MSC), skin fibroblasts, articular chondrocytes, osteoblasts, adipose-derived cells. It enhances cell proliferation, maintaining the differentiation potential in cells otherwise difficult to expand in culture such as articular chondrocytes from elderly donors and allows culture of cells in a xeno-free environment (as it completely eliminates the need of fetal bovine serum). The fully standardized and lyophilized two-component system allows easy optimization of culture conditions for any cell type directly by the user.
