Line of -30˚C freezers

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

A brand new line of -30˚C biomedical freezers provides cost-efficient and secure sample storage across a wide range of applications. A combination of technological advances reduces energy consumption and improves temperature stability, delivering the effective, reliable environmental control needed when storing valuable materials such as vaccines, diagnostic samples, enzymes, culture media and reagents. In conventional freezers, single speed compressors maintain the freezer temperatures by cycling on and off. Panasonic’s new biomedical freezers incorporate inverter compressors which can run at varying speeds to optimize cooling performance under different conditions and ensure highly reliable, efficient operation. This is the first time that such technology has ever been employed in -30˚C freezers. The use of inverter compressors significantly improves the temperature uniformity of the freezer and reduces energy consumption for decreased environmental impact and lower running costs. Natural hydrocarbon (HC) refrigerants also contribute to the low carbon footprint of these new freezers. The -30˚C biomedical freezers feature intuitive microprocessor control with an easy-to-read digital display, which delivers comprehensive set point, alarm, monitoring and diagnostic functions to track system conditions and alert users in the unlikely event of temperature abnormalities.

C360 Euroimmun HPV DNA microarray

HPV DNA microarray

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

A new microarray based on state-of-the-art EUROArray technology provides fast and reliable detection and typing of human papillomavirus (HPV). HPV is involved in the development of cervical carcinoma, and HPV testing plays a central role in risk assessment and early diagnosis of this cancer. In contrast to Pap examinations, HPV detection is not dependent on subjective evaluation and it offers very high sensitivity even in the early stages of infection. The HPV EUROArray is based on detection of the viral oncogenes E6/E7, which provides highest possible sensitivity. Using an extensive panel of specific primers and probes, the EUROArray detects all 30 genitally relevant HPV subtypes in one test and distinguishes between high-risk subtypes that trigger cancer and low-risk subtypes that cause benign genital warts. Multiple infections are reliably identified, and primary and persistent infections can be differentiated. A positive high-risk result indicates an increased risk for cervical carcinoma, which can then be minimized by more frequent follow-up examinations to detect morphological cell changes at an early stage. Based on the recommendations of the respective professional societies, HPV-negative women can forgo Pap smears for a longer time interval. The EUROArray procedure is extremely easy to perform, requiring no expertise in molecular biology. DNA from patient samples is first amplified by multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The PCR products are then incubated with Biochip microarray slides containing immobilized complementary DNA probes. Results are evaluated and interpreted fully automatically by the user-friendly EUROArrayScan software. Meticulously designed primers, ready-to-use PCR components and integrated controls all contribute to the reliability of the analysis. The entire EUROArray process from sample arrival to report release is IVD validated and CE registered.

Immunochemical fecal occult blood test

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Various Fecal occult blood tests (FOBTs) are available, however, many have a high rate of inaccuracies and false positives.  The Hemosure iFOBT (FIT) -fecal immunochemical test- doesn’t require drug or diet restrictions, only one test is needed and it has a higher patient compliance rate. A rapid, convenient and odourless qualitative, sandwich dye conjugate immunoassay, the test employs a unique combination of monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies to selectively identify elevated levels of human hemoglobin as low as 50 ng / mL in five minutes. It is a useful aid in the diagnosis of gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding in a number of GI disorders, e.g. diverticulitis, colitis, polyps, and colorectal cancer. The immunochemical test is specific to human hemoglobin and reduces false positives while offering the correct level of specificity and sensitivity for accurate reading.

Flow cytometry software for hematology

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Part of the company’s Hemato- Flow solution combining diagnostic reagent, hematology and flow cytometry hardware and IT expertise, Version 2 CytoDiff CXP Autogating software is designed to give laboratories added confidence in the use of flow cytometry in the routine hematology lab for the auto-validation of abnormal samples. Easy-to-use, the advanced Version 2 software further improves sub-population classifications. It adds new features, such as greater precision in the removal of potential interference and metrics that provide a new ‘confidence level’ on population classification. The new software simplifies the review process making it easier to validate results with greater certainty. HematoFlow with the CytoDiff five-colour antibody cocktail and CXP Autogating Software make it possible to use the precision of flow cytometry to deliver extended white blood cell (WBC) differential results with far greater consistency than manual microscopic assessment. The five-colour antibody cocktail, the CytoDiff, uses six monoclonal antibodies to establish the differential. The routine use of flow cytometry for validating abnormal samples can improve workflow and turnaround time as well as providing access to additional diagnostic information for patients. European laboratories are already working with Beckman Coulter to increase confidence in the routine use of flow cytometry in the hematology process for validating abnormal samples. Hospitals including University Hospital, Rennes and Bordeaux in France, Erasme University Hospital, Brussels, Belgium and several private labs are successfully adopting this approach. CytoDiff is not available for in vitro diagnostic use in the United States and other geographies.

ELISA for the quantitation of human IgG

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Now available is a specifically formulated and optimized ELISA procedure for the quantitation of intact human IgG from matrices containing non-human proteins. The availability of such an assay meets the needs of clinical, biopharmaceutical, and medical researchers alike. The quantitation of IgG in cell culture supernatant is important in the selection of high yielding clonal cell line candidates for downstream scale-up fermentation. This ELISA utilizes sheep polyclonal antibody, specific to the Fc and light chain regions of human IgG for capture and detection respectively, ensuring not only intact human IgG is quantified. Coupled with that, the assay virtually eliminates any cross reactivity to common laboratory species (i.e. mouse, rat, primate) and to bovine serum proteins ensuring the utmost in test specificity. This unique ELISA procedure, displaying a measuring range for intact human IgG from 2.5ng/mL to 810ng/mL, also features a convenient operator-oriented packaging design, with sufficient reagents to perform 96 separate tests. It also includes all necessary calibration and quality control materials and offers exceptional performance characteristics, lot-to-lot consistency and shelf life stability.

Newborn screening mass spectrometry assay

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Early detection and treatment of inherited metabolic disorders in newborns can lessen the severity of health problems, which could cause mental and physical disabilities or death, if undetected. The window of opportunity to determine if a baby is at risk of a serious or life-threatening condition before symptoms begin is small; therefore, test results for indicators of these disorders must be accurate, comprehensive and timely. To address this challenge, a newborn screening assay is now available in Europe only and is specifically designed for in vitro diagnostic use in conjunction with AB SCIEX mass spectrometry instrumentation for clinical analysis. With the new SCIEX IVD-MS kit for newborn screening, clinical diagnostic laboratories in Europe will be able to analyse panels of amino acids and acylcarnitines simultaneously – rather than one by one, as commonly done in hospitals today – and obtain information about indicators of multiple metabolic disorders from the same sample in a single run. Tandem mass spectrometry makes it possible to detect extremely low concentrations of compounds that can be used to indicate whether a baby is likely to have an inborn metabolic disorder. For example, mass spectrometry can be used to measure the markers for early screening of Phenylketonuria, or PKU. Babies diagnosed with PKU by their physician can be treated with a special diet of limited amounts of phenylalanine (Phe) to avoid build up in the blood and brain, which reportedly leads to mental disability. PKU reportedly occurs in nearly one out of every 10,000 newborns in most of Europe. With an accurate diagnosis, early treatment significantly decreases the severity of symptoms the child will experience as he/she grows up. Another example is the use of mass spectrometry-based newborn screening to find indicators of Medium-chain acyl-Coenzyme Dehydrogenase deficiency (MCAD). Twenty-five percent of children with undetected MCAD die the first time they have an illness. However, if the disorder is detected within days of birth, a treatment as simple as frequent meals and avoidance of fasting would set the child on a path to good health. Studies have shown that MCAD is most common among Caucasians from Northern Europe and includes numbers potentially as high as one out of every 4,900 in Northern Germany. The SCIEX IVDMS kit for amino acid and acylcarnitines in dried blood spots will be a fully validated mass spectrometry method with all the reagents necessary to prepare the sample for MS injection. Using these kits, healthcare professionals will be able to test dried bloodspots from a heel prick on newborns and run the test on an AB SCIEX 3200MD CE-marked IVD system where measurements of the analytes are translated into clinically relevant results, generated with easy-to-use software.
