Torrey Pines Scientific launches EchoTherm SC20 and SC25 shaking dry baths
Torrey Pines Scientific, based in Carlsbad, California, has introduced two new dry bath instruments for laboratories handling biological and other temperature-sensitive samples: the EchoTherm™ SC20,
a digital unit, and the SC25, a fully programmable model with five-programme memory.
Combined heating, chilling and mixing
Both instruments cover a temperature range of -20°C to 100°C and incorporate a variable-speed orbital shaker, allowing samples to be mixed and temperature-controlled simultaneously. Peltier-driven, the units offer control to within 1°C and a shaking range of 200 to 1000 rpm. Each features a backlit two-line alphanumeric display, a 30-day countdown timer with alarm and auto-off, a built-in data logger, and an RS232 input/output port for data logging or computer control.
Accessory blocks for varied sample formats
The XT variants, SC20XT and SC25XT, accept accessory sample blocks for 0.2, 0.5, 1.5, 15 and 50ml centrifuge tubes, as well as blocks for 2ml vials, 20ml scintillation vials, PCR tubes and plates, 96-well and 384-well assay plates, deep-well assay plates, and various test tube formats. Custom blocks can be produced for other sample vessels and layout requirements.
Applications in molecular biology
The company noted that the instruments are suited to running temperature/time profiles, unattended restriction digestions or ligations, automated enzyme reactions and deactivations, storage of oocytes at 17°C, and storage of DNA libraries at the workstation.
Both units are supplied with an instruction manual and a universal benchtop power supply for international use, and are ETL, CSA and CE compliant.
