C159 Priorclave 01

Large round chamber autoclave

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

For laboratories wishing to acquire a high capacity, front loading cylindrical chamber autoclave with an exceptional pack density at a more affordable price, the new 500-litre Q63 laboratory autoclave is now available from Priorclave with a chamber profile taller than that found in most ‘cylindrical’ machines thus making it ideal for larger items. Whilst offering better loading versatility with much easier and safer chamber access due to the lower loading height of just 725 mm, the combination of features such as forced air cooling to reduce cycle times and automatic timed free-steaming for improved air removal add to the overall sterilizing performance of the Q63 autoclave. All operating settings are programmed easily through the Tactrol2 microprocessor controller, which also enables sterilizing performance data to be archived and if necessary forwarded from anywhere in the world direct to Priorclave’s UK Service Centre for technical assistance in fine-tuning and clarification of autoclave performance. The robust build quality of the new autoclave features epoxy coated panels and frame members treated with an anti-bacterial agent which is highly effective against all bacteria and fungi including MRSA, key factors in preventing cross contamination within the laboratory.

Heparin assay

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Siemens Healthcare is announcing the availability of the new INNOVANCE Heparin Assay for the BCS XP System and the Sysmex CS-2000i, CS-2100i and the CS-5100 Systems. This truly liquid testing solution generates precise results with fewer steps, streamlining workflow with easy-to-use reagents and a single hybrid calibration curve for both unfractionated heparin (UFH) and low molecular weight heparin (LMWH). Non-liquid heparin assays typically require labour-intensive reconstitution and mixing of reagents before testing can occur, impacting laboratory workflow. Unlike other liquid heparin assays that may need to stand for up to 30 minutes before use, the INNOVANCE Heparin Assay can be used immediately. The assay’s single calibration curve for both UFH and LMWH adds confidence to results by eliminating the risk of evaluation on the wrong curve. This new assay is designed to significantly reduce hands-on time and improve security so that heparin testing can become a more routine laboratory operation. Heparin is an anticoagulant used to prevent and treat blood clots in at-risk patients. It exists in two forms, UFH and LMWH, both of which are widely used as prophylactic and therapeutic anticoagulants. The INNOVANCE Heparin Assay utilizes a universal calibrator set that is traceable to the World Health Organization (WHO) standards for UFH and LMWH. Dedicated controls for UFH and LMWH have two levels each, and the hybrid calibration curve includes five levels for greater precision and accuracy. It exhibits excellent correlation between Siemens and Sysmex systems and offers a comparable number of tests per kit across all systems.

Automated and quantitative TSI thyroid assay for Graves’ disease

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Siemens Healthcare Laboratory Diagnostics has launched the industry’s first automated quantitative thyroid stimulating immunoglobulin (TSI) assay used in the differential diagnosis of Graves’ disease, an autoimmune disorder which affects approximately 32 million people worldwide. The assay is available on the Siemens IMMULITE 2000 and IMMULITE 2000 XPi immunoassay systems. Unlike TRAb (TSH receptor antibody) assays which detect both stimulating and blocking antibodies, the Siemens TSI assay specifically detects only thyroid stimulating antibodies, which are the hallmark of Graves’ disease. This makes the assay highly specific to aid in the disease’s diagnosis. With a clinical sensitivity and specificity of 98.3% and 99.7% respectively, the new Siemens TSI assay offers laboratories a fast, easy, and specific diagnostic tool for the assessment of Graves’ disease. As the first automated quantitative TSI assay on the market, it eliminates the need for manual preparations and long incubation times. Not only does this automated assay streamline lab operations and enhance efficiency, it also delivers results to clinicians much more quickly enabling faster patient diagnosis and initiation of proper treatment. Graves’ disease is the most common form of hyperthyroidism, and is characterized by the presence of TSI, which are found in over 90 percent of patients. TSI mimic the activity of TSH, leading to an elevated production of thyroid hormone. Left untreated, Graves’ disease can lead to miscarriage, birth defects, thyroid eye disease, and can even be life-threatening. Women carry a 10 -20 fold risk of acquiring Graves’ disease compared to men.

Immunoassay for the specific detection of hydrocodone

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

A new immunoassay for the specific detection of hydrocodone has received 510 (k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The DRI Hydrocodone Assay is a homogeneous enzyme immunoassay featuring requisite sensitivities that meet the newly proposed Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA) guidelines using a 300 ng/mL cut-off. SAMHSA oversees the testing of federally regulated employees and many organizations follow the guidelines set forth by this agency. The DRI Hydrocodone Assay has excellent cross-reactivity to the major metabolites hydromorphone and hydromorphoneglucuronide and utilizes liquid, readyto- use reagents, which can be run in both qualitative and semi-quantitative modes. Calibrators and controls are sold separately. In addition, the assay demonstrates good correlation with LC-MS/MS and has excellent specificity and sensitivity, making it an easy-to-use screening tool for hydrocodone in urine samples with applications for a variety of clinical chemistry analysers. Some of the traditional general opiate immunoassays used to screen for hydrocodone and its metabolites may have given inaccurate results when using the opiate calibrators and controls, per the intended use. As such, they did not have the sensitivities required to meet the proposed SAMHSA guidelines whereas this new assay does. Hydrocodone, a semi-synthetic opioid, is an antitussive (cough suppressant) and narcotic analgesic agent for the treatment of moderate to severe pain. Hydrocodone is considered to be one of the most frequently prescribed and misused opiate drugs in the U.S. There are several hundred brand names and generic combinations of hydrocodone products available on the market today.
