Awareness Technology releases ChemWell 2, a two-plate ELISA and chemiluminescent analyzer

Awareness Technology’s new ChemWell 2 analyzer for ELISA and chemiluminescent (CLIA) is now available.
The ChemWell 2 is a two-probe, two-plate automatic combo analyzer. For 20 years the company has produced single-plate ChemWell automatic ELISA and CLIA systems with the flexibility to run both modes simultaneously even within the same plate. With laboratories expanding serology requirements, the two-plate system is expected to be a more suitable primary instrument for lower throughput labs, and ideal for off-line assays in higher throughput settings.
ChemWell’s flexibility in both hardware and software is key to automating a wide variety of unrelated test methods. Separate probes are used for samples and reagents with an option for disposable tips. Filters range from 405 nm – 630 nm; dispense volume from 2μL to 1.95 ml; plate washing routines, temperature control, and mixing are programmable. Intuitive software offers on-board predilutions, multiple calibration options, replicates, statistics, QC tracking, barcoded sample ID and data management. Additionally, it schedules assays to prevent timing conflicts while providing optimal throughput. An optional laptop stand conserves bench space.

Siemens Healthineers recently announced the new RAPIDPoint 500e blood gas system, their latest
solution in critical point-of-care testing. The new system generates blood gas, electrolyte  and metabolyte results used to diagnose and monitor critically ill patients typically in the intensive care unit, operating room or emergency room. The RAPIDPoint 500e blood gas system is available now in all countries requiring the CE mark. Developed with extensive customer feedback, the system is designed to elevate confidence in patient results with Integri-sense technology, streamline workflow with improved simplicity and raise the bar in data security. Cybersecurity is becoming a key operational factor. Health-care providers must protect confidential operator and patient information.

HORIBA Medical and CellaVision collaborate on new automated Digital Cell Morphology solution

HORIBA UK Ltd, Medical has introduced a new automated digital cell morphology solution in collaboration with CellaVision to help haematology laboratories simplify and expedite the performance of blood and body fluid differentials.
CellaVision’s digital cell morphology systems can now be integrated with HORIBA’s HELO automated haematology platform, enabling unique two-way data flow and rapid validation of cell morphology results. These combined systems automate a number of steps that would otherwise be undertaken manually, thus significantly enhancing laboratory workflows and increasing productivity.
The connectivity and bi-directional information sharing between CellaVision and HORIBA’s haematology systems uniquely support numerous aspects of digital blood cell morphology workflow. These save technician and cytologist time, support ease-of-use, improve flexibility and deliver more accurate results.

CellaVision systems leverage high-speed robotics and digital imaging to automatically locate and capture high-quality images of cells from slides produced by HORIBA’s Yumizen SPS slide maker following automatic slide reflex rules. By automating pre-classification and pre-characterisation of blood cell morphology, this slide digitalisation solution saves time and supports standardisation of slide reading when compared to the use of a traditional microscope for validation of blood smears. In turn, all results and alarms from HORIBA’s haematology analysers can be directly sent to CellaVision.
Data received from HORIBA haematology analysers are used by CellaVision systems in a number of ways to enhance workflows. As all slides are printed with 1D or 2D barcodes by the SPS, automatic distinction of whole blood and body fluids slides are possible without need for specific colour-coded racks when loading.
Furthermore, based on the HORIBA analyser’s WBC value, the CellaVision system will automatically adjust the quantity of pictures it captures to ensure sufficient and representative cell counting. This offers convenience in cases of leucopoenia or aplasia.
A range of CellaVision systems is available to integrate with HORIBA’s HELO haematology platform which can be selected based on a laboratory’s size and throughput. The CellaVision® DM9600 meets the needs of large laboratories with high-volume testing requirements, offering a loading capacity of 96 slides and throughput of 30 slides/hour. For large or small laboratories with lower volume testing needs, the CellaVision® DM1200 and CellaVision® DC-1 offer alternative options.

Automated RPR Syphilis Analyzer – ChemWell® RPR

The FDA-cleared ChemWell® RPR replaces the manual labor-intensive and subjective visual RPR reading with a fully automatic, 190 results-per-hour process that objectively interprets and stores photographic images. Over the years and around the world many high throughput labs have already given up the advantages of non-treponemal screening, replacing it with more expensive treponemal ELISA testing simply to take advantage of automation. The compromise is no longer necessary.

Automated ChemWell® RPR allows laboratories to use the US CDC recommended traditional nontreponemal screening algorithm instead of the higher-cost and complicated reverse algorithm while reducing hands-on time by 92%, compared to a manual RPR test.

The innovative test system was developed in cooperation with Arlington Scientific Inc. (Salt Lake City, Utah USA) who is selling in North America and Europe under the brand name Evolution. Awareness Technology will supply the rest of the world through its distribution and technical service channels.

The NovaLisa® SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) ELISA serological assays feature separate detection of IgG, IgA, and IgM antibodies. These three assays use the nucleocapsid protein (N protein) as antigen for the detection of antibodies to SARS-CoV-2, as it plays an important role in viral pathogenesis, replication and RNA packaging. NovaLisa® assays can be automated on several open ELISA systems providing quick results.
The GSD NovaPrime® SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) is a one-step reverse transcription multiplex Real-Time PCR for the direct detection of SARS-CoV-2. The assay simultaneously detects two target sequences inside the N gene. The multiplex PCR allows a streamlined workflow in one reaction and provides results in approximately 2 hours. An extraction/inhibition control and a positive control are included in the kits. The PCR assay demonstrates excellent performance and no cross-reactivity with common human coronavirus strains.

Total bile acids assay for assessment of liver function

Serum total bile acid (TBA) levels are a sensitive marker of liver function and may be used for diagnosis and monitoring of various liver diseases. Increased serum TBA levels are associated with diseases such as acute and chronic hepatitis, intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP), liver sclerosis, cirrhosis, and cancer; TBA may as well detect hepatic dysfunction. Conventional liver tests such as ALT and AST cannot provide this because they are indicators for hepatocellular integrity. TBA measurement corresponds to the sum of more than 20 individual bile acids synthetized by the liver, modified by gut bacteria, and involved in complex enterohepatic circulation.  Commercially available assays show limitations regarding the detection of individual primary and secondary bile acids. The new DiaSys reagent, Total bile acids 21 FS, is an enzyme cycling assay which enables assessment of all relevant bile acids in a sample and hence offers the possibility to precisely cover all stages of liver diseases. The new liquid-stable, ready-to-use reagent provides a wide measuring range, outstanding precision and shows significantly reduced interferences compared with nitrotetrazolium blue (NBT) methods.
