Highly specific Lp(a) assay to determine cardiovascular disease risk

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

The Randox Lipoprotein (a) assay provides a highly sensitive and specific method for the detection of Lp(a) in human serum and plasma.  The assay is based on an immunoturbidimetric method and is suitable for use on most chemistry analyzers furthermore it is one of the only commercially available methods not affected by the varying size of Apo(a).

The European Atherosclerosis Society, National Cholesterol Education Programme and National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry recognise the usefulness of Lp(a) and recommend testing those with a family history of CVD or those at moderate to high risk.

  • Liquid ready-to-use reagents
  • Measuring range 2.1 – 90mg/dl
  • No sample preparation required

One-step screening for common connective tissue disease autoantibodies

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Created to simultaneously screen for several of the most common autoantibodies found in autoimmune connective tissue disorders, such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), the Maverick ENA 4 and ENA 6 assay kits are the first available for the Maverick Detection System. Their simplified one-step workflow delivers accurate results in 15 minutes and can be run using very small volume samples from a variety of matrices, including serum and plasma. The ENA 4 assay tests for the presence of four of the most commonly measured extractable nuclear antigens (ENA), including SS-A, SS-B, Sm and RNP, while the ENA 6 assay includes two additional commonly measured antigens–Scl-70 and Jo-1, so covering six multiplexed tests per sample. The assay results are highly reproducible, show excellent correlation to ELISA and are up to ten times more sensitive. The assays are available to participants in the company’s Early Access programme, which enables scientists to gain pre-launch access to multiplexed autoantibody assays and the Maverick Detection System. This uses a proprietary chip based on silicon photonics to simultaneously analyse multiple proteins from a single small sample. The multiplexing technology simultaneously screens for the detection of autoantibodies using a one-step process that eliminates the washes, incubations, reagents and processing steps typically associated with other technologies. Semi-quantitative results are reported for each analyte, eliminating the need for reflex testing. The assays are simple to use and rapid – results are available in only 15 minutes, including just two minutes of hands-on time. A number of higher plexed assays for autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, celiac disease and others, are also in development.

Rapid test to identify pathogen from blood cultures

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Based on fluorescence in situ hybridisation and designed to differentiate Staphylococcus aureus from coagulase-negative Staphylococci in positive blood cultures, the hemoFISH S.aureus/CNS Screen supports clinicians in effectively managing blood stream infections. The test also fits perfectly in today’s laboratory routine. Total turnaround time is only 15 minutes so that results can be reported together with the Gram stain. In addition, up to 12 blood cultures can be processed and analysed simultaneously, allowing microbiologists to apply this test in a batch mode. Importantly, the simple and robust assay procedure, which includes intrinsic controls in every test, is very accurate.Besides the hemoFISH product line, multiplex tests for semi-quantitative identification of pneumoniarelated pathogens directly from respiratory secretions are offered.

Human ANGPTL-4 ELISA kit

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Angiopoietinlike protein 4 (ANGPTL4), a member of the angiopoietin- like gene family, is a 406 amino acid protein with a molecular weight of 50 kDa. It is a circulating protein predominantly expressed in adipose tissue and liver, and also occurs in heart, skeletal muscles and intestines. ANGPT4 inhibits LPL and retards lipoprotein catabolism. The expression of ANGPTL4 is reported to be dramatically upregulated by hypoxic stress in endothelial cells, cardiomyocytes and tumours. In patients with type 2 diabetes, serum levels of ANGPTL4 were found to be significantly lower than those in healthy subjects, suggesting that the decreased ANGPTL4 could be a causative factor of this disease. The potential angiogenic activity of ANGPTL4 may be important in rheumatoid arthritis. The Human ANGPTL4 ELISA kit extends BioVendor’s portfolio of diagnostic kits for lipoprotein metabolism and DM2T. With serum and plasma (citrate, EDTA) samples, the 96 well-microtitre plate format is suitable for use with standard ELISA equipment.

Bordetella pertussis test kit

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Pertussis toxin is a protein exclusively produced by the bacterium Bordetella pertussis, which causes the respiratory infectious disease pertussis (whooping cough) in humans. The typical symptoms are frequent and severe cough attacks with a whooping sound and vomiting. The infection can be fatal for infants that have not yet been vaccinated against pertussis. Vaccination does not provide lifelong protection. Adult pertussis can be difficult to diagnose due to milder symptoms and often due to the lack of the characteristic whooping sound and vomiting. Adults with pertussis are therefore the main source of infection for unvaccinated infants. Diagnosis and treatment of adult pertussis can eventually reduce infant pertussis cases. Bordetella pertussis is only present in the airways for the first few weeks after the infection but the symptoms last for a longer period due to presence of the toxin and several other virulence factors. Diagnostic methods detecting the bacterium itself (culture and PCR) are therefore only useful early in the infection. Serology is, however, very efficient for diagnosis of patients with prolonged cough. Pertussis toxin is the recommended antigen for pertussis ELISA as there is no risk of cross-reactions with other bacterial antigens. The Bordetella pertussis IgG-PT ELISA kit is a traditional ELISA setup, which has been developed using purified pertussis toxin. Four standard samples are provided to establish the standard curve. The dilution method is the same for the standards and samples. Heat-treated sera can be analysed with this method without the risk of false-positive results. The sensitivity and specificity value is 81 % and 96 % respectively based on data from Denmark using a cut-off at 75 IU/mL. The test can be carried out either in one day or with overnight incubation for the first step. The plate can be split to facilitate more than one run of the kit. The kit contains enough reagents including controls to perform 24 – 44 test. Shelf life is minimum one year from date of shipment.

Fast clean-up of plasma samples with phospholipid removal plates

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Successful chromatographic analysis of plasma samples requires the removal of both proteins and phospholipids, which can clog HPLC/UHPLC columns. Phospholipids can also cause ion suppression and, over time, will reduce sensitivity due to a build-up on the mass spec source. For the fast clean-up of plasma samples in pharmaceutical and clinical research laboratories, Phree phospholipid removal plates remove both proteins and phospholipids and deliver the prepared plasma to a collection plate in one step. The high-capacity sorbent can process up to 400 μL per well and removes 99.0 to 100% of lysophosphatidyl and phosphatidyl cholines, which are not removed when a simple protein precipitation is performed. The one-step clean-up eliminates time-consuming method development, and the plate format enables the simultaneous processing of 96 samples, contributing to significant time savings.
