C258 AniLabsystems

Automated neonatal screening

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

The Ani Labsystems/Tecan Neonatal platform is a high throughput system intended for quantitative analysis of neonatal screening samples on 96-well microplates. The instrument is fully automated – all the operator has to do is to place the plates containing the dried blood spot samples on the instrument. Processing steps include: dispensing of reagents, elution of samples, incubation, removing of disks, washing, transfer of liquid samples, measuring, calculation of results and data reporting. Apart from the reagents, no extra consumables (e.g. pipette tips) are needed, which keeps running costs to a minimum. The unique liquid handling system allows analysis of both the ELISAbased assays as well as the enzymatic assays on the same platform. The highly sensitive fluorimetric detection guarantees excellent performance and a large linear range. The neonatal screens available include PKU, TSH, 17-OHP, Toxo-IgM, GAL, G6PD, (IRT to be released soon).

DNA microarrays for thrombosis and haemochromatosis

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Two new microarrays based on state-ofthe- art technology provide molecular genetic risk determination for the frequently occurring hereditary conditions thrombosis and haemochromatosis. The EUROArray FV/FII Direct accurately identifies point mutations in the factor V (factor V Leiden, 1691G>A) and/or factor II (prothrombin) gene (20210G>A), which are the most frequent genetic causes of thrombosis and embolism. Mutations in the HFE (high iron) gene contributing to hereditary haemochromatosis can be detected using EUROArray Haemochromatosis Direct test systems. Either two (C282Y, H63D) or four (C282Y, H63D, S65C and E168X) parameters can be analysed in parallel. With both diseases the identification of a predisposition enables early implementation of suitable therapy or preventative measures. The procedure is extremely easy to perform, requiring no previous knowledge of molecular biology. The alleles are analysed directly from whole blood, significantly reducing costs and the hands-on time required. Results are evaluated and documented automatically using the specially developed software. Highly specific primers, ready-to-use PCR components and integrated positive controls all contribute to the reliability of the analysis. All processes are IVD validated and CE registered, and product performance is backed by extensive clinical evaluation data.

Energy efficient sample storage

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

These innovative new ultra-low temperature (ULT) freezers have been designed to provide laboratories with an energy efficient approach to cold storage. The Thermo Scientific Revco UxF Series incorporates users’ choice of high-performance or energy saving modes, which are easily selected via the intuitive touch-screen interface. This new range of freezers provides outstanding sample protection while using significantly less energy than previous generation models. The series helps laboratories to obtain an energy-efficient approach to maintaining sample viability during long- and short-term cold storage. In addition to providing efficient operation, the series offers temperature uniformity throughout the internal chamber. As a result, users can maximise the use of all available space with the knowledge that all samples will be held at the pre-set optimal temperature.

C337 Beckman DxH 600

Benchtop hematology analyser

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Building on the company’s proven cellular analysis technology, Beckman Coulter’s new UniCel DxH 600 Coulter cellular analysis system — complete with recently FDA-cleared advanced soft ware — provides laboratories with exceptional quality results, improved first-pass accuracy and automatic rerun and reflex testing, thereby reducing overall manual review rates and processes. The hematology laboratory’s single most important step, and most time consuming, is the manual review. By reducing manual differential rates, the new analyser frees mid- to high-volume labs to focus time on quickly and accurately reporting patient results. The UniCel DxH 600 is equipped with robust soft ware that provides new features, enhancements and research-use parameters to improve laboratory efficiency, reliability and quality. The soft – ware saves time by allowing labs to partially release patient results manually or automatically via decision rules and offers users the ability to create and edit decision rules during instrument operation; pre-defined decision rules are offered using Cell Population Data (for research use only). Additional features of the soft ware include the ability to track workload by the day, hour and test, as well as providing automatic notification of STAT samples that have not been processed or released within an expected time frame, helping users to report STAT results in a timely and efficient manner.

Anti-dengue performance panel

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

The first commercially available Anti-Dengue Mixed Titer Performance Panel has been launched by SeraCare. It is designed to help blood donor collection facilities, diagnostics manufacturers and clinical laboratories evaluate and troubleshoot their anti-dengue virus assays. The new performance panel is derived from undiluted, unpreserved human plasma specimens, with 21 members representing a wide range of reactivity for anti-dengue IgM and IgG antibodies, from negative to strongly positive. Panel members include samples from individuals with recent and past infection by all four dengue viruses (DENV-1 through DENV-4).

Improved detection of clinically significant ketosis

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

The β-Hydroxybutyrate LiquiColor reagent system assays levels of the ketone β-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) in serum and plasma for the clinical diagnosis and monitoring of diabetes mellitus, alcoholism, glycogen storage disease, high fat/low carbohydrate diets, pregnancy, alkalosis, ingestion of isopropyl alcohol and salicylate poisoning. As BHB is the main ketone produced during ketosis (~78%), the blood assay provides a better tool than the nitroprusside test strips commonly used for the detection of ketone bodies in urine, which only detect 22% of ketones present. BHB also demonstrates excellent stability, making it the most reliable indicator of clinically relevant ketosis and ketoacidosis. This reagent produces quantitative and objective results and provides an excellent tool for diff erentiating metabolic acidosis and monitoring therapy. Its precise and sensitive quantitative results enable earlier detection of ketosis and faster patient treatment, thus improving Emergency Room and Critical Decision Unit throughput and efficiency.
