GBO VACUETTE glucose FC

VACUETTE® FC Mix Tube

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

The breakdown of glucose (glycolysis) in venous blood samples is of great significance in pre-analytics, particularly in relation to the diagnosis of diabetes mellitus and gestational diabetes. Greiner Bio-One has the optimum solution in the form of the VACUETTE® FC Mix tube made of highly-transparent PET plastic. A citrate fluoride additive in the form of a powder in the tube stabilises the in vivo concentration of glucose in the sample. Should the tubes be expected to be stored longer than 24 hours at room temperature, samples should be immediately centrifuged after blood collection in order to be stored for up to 48 hours at room temperature. This allows for reliable diagnosis of diabetes conditions and avoids false negative analysis results. The stabilisation is carried out in the whole blood and therefore does not require immediate centrifugation.

Continuous workforce education system enables addition of own learning content

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Advances in technology, and the constant competitive necessity to upgrade workforce skills mean that employees need to be trained continuously. For that reason, Siemens Healthineers expanded its premium subscription for workforce education management, PEPconnections, with a Virtual Library, which provides customers with the ability to add their own learning content to their group. With PEPconnections institutions can easily manage their workforce education, design learning plans, manage, assign and administer online training and professional development activities for employee groups in hospitals and laboratories. Importantly, it does not matter whether the learning activities were developed by Siemens Healthineers, the institution itself, or any other source. Customers now can easily upload their own content as PDFs, videos, documents or links to the Virtual Library. Following upload, items in the Virtual Library are available for general usage or can be assigned to group members through a new or existing learning plan. PEPconnections allows subscribers to manage staff competency and skills – supporting them in transforming care delivery for enhanced patient outcomes. Institutions can benefit from Siemens Healthineers trainings but also have the ability to individualize their learning experience and upload their own content. PEPconnections provides a connection to knowledge in digitalizing healthcare that is designed to increase staff competency, efficiency, and productivity.
The basis is PEPconnect – the industry’s first personalized education and performance experience for healthcare professionals worldwide. It provides medical professionals with customized training and professional development opportunities, with learning activities in topics on laboratory diagnostics, medical imaging and minimally-invasive therapy. The activities are designed at Siemens Healthineers by experts in key areas, such as application design, instructional technology and information security. Learners can also construct a learning experience personalized to their needs, and share their learning experience with others via a range of social media channels or groups they are members of within PEPconnect.
Almost 300,000 professionals are already using PEPconnect for their training and professional development needs in up to eight different languages.

Extend your lipid testing profile with Randox

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Cardiovascular disease caused by atherosclerosis is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in Western countries. Atherosclerosis involves the hardening and narrowing of vessels in the systemic system. If the build-up increases, plaque rupturing may occur which may lead to myocardial infarction.
The mission of the National Lipid Association (NLA) “is to enhance the practice of lipid management in clinical medicine” as the current lipid testing panel consists of LDL-C, HDL-C and triglycerides. These traditional tests only detect approximately 20% of all coronary artery disease patients.  Advanced lipid testing is recommended to optimise patient treatment.
Randox offer a range of niche and superior performance lipid assays including sdLDL-C and Lp(a) to extend your lipid profile.

Direct HbA1c testing using RX series clinical chemistry analysers

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

The concentration of HbA1c in the blood of diabetic patients increases with rising blood glucose levels and is representative of the mean blood glucose level over the preceding six to eight weeks.

Randox now offers a direct HbA1c assay for the rapid direct measurement of HbA1c in human blood. This assay is available to be used on the RX daytona +, RX imola and RX modena clinical chemistry analysers which are capable of performing medium to high throughput testing. This direct HbA1c test adds to the comprehensive test menu of niche and high performing assays already available at Randox.

The latex enhanced immunoturbidimetric method makes the test simple and quick to perform as only one assay is now required. Human error inaccuracies are removed as offline preparations are no longer required and are preformed on-board the RX series analysers.

For more information about our direct HbA1c assay please visit www.randox.com/hba1c-rxseries/ or contact us at therxseries@randox.com

Rabbit monclonal antibody to group B Streptococcus

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Group B Streptococcus (GBS) is found on the skin of many adults and does not usually cause disease. However, when passed to infants at birth, GBS can cause severe disease that can be deadly. This makes it a leading cause of infections in newborns. Fortunately antibiotic treatment during delivery can protect the baby. ViroStat has released a new Rabbit Monoclonal Antibody specific to GBS. This antibody reacts with the GBS Lancefield carbohydrate antigen found on the surface of the bacterium. This antigen can be released from specimens by extraction and detected via immunoassay methods. This new antibody reacts with all GBS strains tested but does not react with other Strep groups. This antibody joins ViroStat’s existing Rabbit Monoclonal Antibody to group A Streptococcus (GAS) as tools for rapid detection.

Benchtop MALDI TDF mass spectrometer

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

The new MALDI-8020 complements Shimadzu’s MALDI family. The linear benchtop time-of-flight mass spectrometer serves various applications in the positive ion mode, such as analysis of proteins, peptides or polymers. It is ideal for researchers developing MALDI-based diagnostic methods, and for routine labs carrying out quality control and fast analysis of intact samples. The MALDI-8020 is fast and accurate, has a high resolution and its compact size makes it fit in any laboratory. The robust design promises reliable analysis and low maintenance. With a mass range of 1-500,000 Da, a mass resolution of more than 5,000 (for ACTH18-39, m/z 2,465), a mass accuracy of < 20 ppm after internal calibration and a sensitivity of 250 amol (Glu-Fib, m/z 1,570), the MALDI-8020 achieves the same specifications as the more advanced version, the Axima Assurance for high throughput screening.  Thanks to its small dimensions of 450 x 745 x 1,055 mm and weight of 86 kg, the new MALDI-8020 fits on any lab workbench. The oil-free diaphragm pump and a turbo pump ensure reliable and low-noise operation (< 55 dB).
Extra-fast motors drive the highspeed stage. Motor installation outside the vacuum reduces the volume to be evacuated, so pumping time after changing of sample is the fastest on the market: around 90 seconds. The 200 Hz solid-state laser allows further optimization of the analysis time. The typical Shimadzu wide-bore ion optics increase ion transmission and reduce the likelihood of contamination. If the source is nevertheless contaminated, it can be cleaned within ten minutes using the UV laser-based TrueClean. The MALDI Solutions software provides intuitive and easy operation, and includes interfaces for evaluating polymer, protein and oligonucleotide spectra. SampleStation, AuraSolution and QC Reporter offer various options for automated lab routines. During sample preparation, data can be collected with the SampleStation software. The barcode reader integrated into the mass spectrometer enables automated measurement using AuraSolution. The QC Reporter software allows specification of different criteria that can be used for automatic evaluation of the analyses. Data is stored in a Microsoft® SQL database with automatic backup. Personalized user logins can be used to document quality control, and different levels can be assigned to individual users. In this way the user is prepared for potential audits.

Microarray for detection of polymorphisms in lactose intolerance

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

A DNA microarray based on EUROArray technology provides parallel detection of the two main polymorphisms associated with primary lactose intolerance (13910 C/T and 22018 G/A) in one test. Genetically-caused deficiency of the digestive enzyme lactase affects around 20% of Europeans and almost all adults in large parts of Asia.  According to current knowledge, homozygous carriers of the wild type variant (13910 C/C or 22018 G/G) develop lactose intolerance, while heterozygous carriers of the polymorphisms (13910 C/T or 22018 G/A) only show corresponding symptoms in stress situations or with intestinal infections. Homozygous carriers of the mutant variant (13910 T/T or 22018 A/A) are lactose tolerant as adults. These latter gene variants prevail especially in population groups with a long tradition of pastoralism, for example in Europe.  Primary lactose intolerance needs to be distinguished from the secondary (acquired) form, which can develop as a result of other gastrointestinal diseases and is often only temporary. Molecular genetic determination is able to differentiate the two forms, in contrast to classical diagnostic procedures such as the hydrogen breath test or blood sugar test which cannot distinguish the primary and secondary forms.
The EUROArray Lactose Intolerance Direct provides simple and fast detection of the two polymorphisms 13910 C/T and 22018 G/A, allowing confirmation or exclusion of primary lactose intolerance with high probability. In the case of positive results, homozygous and heterozygous states are differentiated. The assay can be performed directly on pre-treated whole blood, eliminating the need for time- and cost-intensive DNA isolation. Numerous integrated controls ensure high reliability of results, for example, by verifying that there are no other rare mutations in direct proximity to the tested positions which could interfere with the analysis. Data evaluation, interpretation and archiving are fully automated using the EUROArrayScan software, ensuring standardized, objective results. All EUROArray processes from sample arrival to report release are IVD validated and CE registered.

Complete coagulation line

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

The management and control of anticoagulant therapy and the assessment of pre- and post-surgical states require a proper evaluation of the coagulation cascade. Several tests help the physician in the diagnosis of altered coagulation states and management of coagulopathy.
Biosystems offers a range of the most common tests to achieve a complete coagulation profile: Prothrombin Time (PT), Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time (APTT), Fibrinogen Clauss, Thrombin Time (TT), Antithrombin (At III), Total Fibrinogen (based on turbidimetry method) and coming soon DDimer .
PT and Fribrinogen Clauss parameters include a master calibration curve lot by lot; this curve is suitable for all automatic and semiautomatic systems based on mechanical or photo-optical clot detection principles.  This provides significant savings in time and operation costs for laboratories.
The coagulation reagents are manufactured in high quality conditions, providing for PT parameter lot by lot ISI values in the range 1.0-1.1. Thrombin Time and Fibrinogen Clauss parameters are based on human origin Thrombin, achieving the highest reliable results.
The coagulation reagents line is accompanied by a series of semi-automated coagulometers aimed at small to medium size laboratories. The COAX family includes 1, 2 or 4 optical channel devices. Operation is very intuitive, with a high quality colour touchscreen allowing easy patient data management. These devices are optimized for a low consumption of reagents.

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

The VACUETTE SAFETY Winged Set is a new addition to Greiner Bio-One’s range of safety products and it is equipped with a safety mechanism. For greater flexibility, there are three different options for activating the safety mechanism immediately after blood collection. The clearly audible click confirms that the needle is safely and irreversibly locked in the safety shield. To give the user more choice, the safety blood collection set is available both with and without a pre-assembled blood culture holder. The transparent product design provides optimal blood flow visibility. Around a third of all occupational accidents in healthcare involve needlestick injuries. Nurses are at particular risk of being infected by blood-borne diseases such as hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV. It is therefore advisable to use safety products for taking blood samples in order to lower the risk of needlestick injuries. The first VACUETTE Safety Products were brought onto the market in 2003. The products have been developed and enhanced on an ongoing basis since then. In addition to the established VACUETTE Safety Blood Collection Sets, VACUETTE Safety Needles are also available, enabling users to select from a wide range to meet their specific needs.
